    1. [GATWIGGS] Griffins in Twiggs County
    2. Keith and Paula Griffin
    3. I am very interested in the Griffin families in Twiggs County, also. Thank you, Diane, for posting your family information. Have you been able to find any records or census information in Twiggs or surrounding counties? This is what I have collected, but I have not put it all together yet: (If anyone has any clues, I would appreciate it) I have a Lucinda Griffin, who was born August 28, 1805, and married Henry Solomon on April 18, 1822. Henry was an older, wealthy landowner. In the 1830 census, they are listed with their two oldest daughters and 60 slaves (in Twiggs County). Henry and Lucinda had 9 children before his death in January, 1847. She remarried Elias Pearce on July 9, 1848. They had one son, Edward Coke Pearce, before her death on November 7, 1857. Lucinda is buried in the Solomon-Faulk cemetery. There are some family Bible pages (on microfilm at the Washington Library in Macon and also listed in the new Twiggs County book) that belong to Lucinda and her second husband Elias. They are dated 1848, so maybe it was a Bible they got when they married. In them, Lucinda lists her parents as William and Rachel Griffin. I believe she may have been related to Larkin Griffin and William Griffin (both are also on the 1830 Twiggs County census). Larkin Griffin served as executor for her first husband Henry Solomon and also named a daughter Lucinda. Her first husband Henry served as executor for William Griffin. In my notes I also have that an Elizabeth Griffin of Marion, Twiggs County, married Robert Beal on January 19, 1826; and that Ethelred Griffin married Mrs. Matilda Childers on May 28, 1835. ( I believe these are both in the new Twiggs County book.) In the 1850 census of Twiggs County, there is a William, age 25, listed with his wife, Mary E., and daughters Laura and Josephine. I would guess this is the Rev. William and Mary Lingo Griffin from Diane's family information. There is also an Eli S. Griffin, age 21, listed with his wife Arabella and daughter Mary J. This should correspond with Col. Eli Shorter Griffin, the brother of Rev. William Griffin. The only other Griffin listed on the 1850 census for Twiggs is an E. Griffin with a Malinda (listed M?), that could be Ethelred and Matilda Griffin. They are both age 55. (Could "Dredd" be a nickname for Ethelred?) There are 4 Griffin households listed on the 1830 census: Yancy and Ethelred have no children in their homes. Larkin Griffin (age 30-40) has a female between 5 and 10, and a female and male both under 5. William Griffin (also age 30-40) has a male between 5 and 10, and a female and two males under 5 years. Both Ethelred and William have a younger male (age 20-30) also living with them. I believe Larkin Griffin moved to Macon in Bibb County, as he died there (at the home of Peter Solomon, a brother of Henry Solomon) on May 25, 1854. He was age 55, so he was born around 1799. Thanks for taking the time to read all this - if anyone is better than I am at putting this kind of information together, or has more information on this family, I would like to hear it (or post it on the list for everyone). Paula
