    1. [GATWIGGS] 1870 Mortality Census on-line
    2. Crilley
    3. We're so grateful to Betty and Bernie Johnson for their transcribing of the 1870 Twiggs Mortality Census. It is on-line at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/twiggs/census/1870/1870mort.txt If you have never tried to translate old handwriting, or read microfilm, then you may not really appreciate all the hard work that goes into these transcriptions. Believe me, I do!! We've been so fortunate in Twiggs County to have several people doing transcribing.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/twiggs.htm This is the Archives Site which complements the Twigg County page itself. Remember we welcome ANY of your material. It is everyone sharing what they have that helps us all with the puzzle and connecting with "cousins"..... If you're unsure HOW to contribute, I'll be glad to work with you on anything you have... Virginia

Owens; Wilson who married Martha Cunningham and Sarah, who married Alexander Nelson. Joseph was a revolutionary war patriot and published accounts say that he died in Twiggs Co., at the home of his daughter. It had to be either Ruth, Martha or Mary. Do any of these names mean anything to you? If so, I would appreciate your contacting me. Sally

Got a response from the Washington Library today regarding the letter I wrote on Monday to them inquiring about the Salt records. They responded very quickly! Here is the info in a Nutshell re: Obediah (Obadiah) 1862 Mrs. Obadiah Evans received salt as a Wive with a husband or son now in service (notice wive - Obediah still alive) 1863 (July 21) Mrs. O. Evans received salt again as a WIDOW having a son or sons in service (notice widow - Obediah is dead) ****that means that Obediah died in 1862 or before July 21st of 1863) 1864 Mrs. M.A. Evans received salt as widow having a son or sons in service (this is probably Obediah's wife - Martha Ann) THIS IS A BIG BREAK FOR US!!! We may now be able to find an OBIT for Obediah!!! Is this great or what? There are more Evans that received salt. The library sent me info on all of them. I haven't had time to analyze it all yet. The sheets are 11 x 17. There are alot of names listed. I will try to post these on the board for everyone to see. REMEMBER: this is not the entire Salt List.
