Allen, born in Georgia around 1829-1833. He married in Bibb County in 1853, and his obituary says he was "in business there for many years", but I can't find him as on the 1850 census there. Could he be from one of these John Allen's in Twiggs and Wilkinson Counties?

Thought I would brighten up everyone's day with a little bit of humor. This was sent to me a long time ago. pat Every Genealogist can relate to these....... My ancestors must have been in a "Witness Protection Program" My family tree must have been used for firewood! Whoever said "Seek and ye shall find" was not a genealogist Am I the only person up my tree? --- Seems like it I researched my family tree....apparently I don't exist! I'm not stuck.......I'm ancestrally challenged I'm stuck in my family tree.....and I can't get down!
I am seeking information on William SOLOMON who was ordained a Baptist Preacher there in 1872 at Stone Creek Baptist Church. I think he may have been the same William who married Susan Smith, and was born in 1792, he may have died in 1874. Need the names of his children, and grandchildren. I have developed the following theory based on census records from Twiggs County 1820-1840. I suspect that John Allen was the father of Gideon Allen with the following relationship to other Allen's who lived within the same district. John Allen =================== Wyatt Allen (Brother) | |___ Gideon Allen (son) | |___ William Allen (son) | |___ Green Allen (son) | |___ John W. Allen (son?) >From other family records, we know: 1. Mary Ann Horne, Gideon Allen's wife, was a member of the Richland Baptist Church. She was baptised by Elder Joseph Hand in 1835. 2. Gideon Allen's family left Twiggs and settled in Bossier Parish, LA in 1845. 3. The names Green, William, and John turn up frequently in Gideon Allen's children. This implies they may be named after the "Twiggs Allens." I am seeking any information that can prove or disprove if John Allen is linked to Gideon Allen. We are at a dead end and any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Unfortunately I copied only part of the book and part of the index, and so cannot quickly spot your Joel Leroy. My ancestor Jeremiah Cloud (1784GA-1861TX) appears on page 302 of the Youngblood book. He and his family were apparently in Twiggs County until about 1825. A good number of ancestors are searching for his parents and possible siblings.

Have you tried researching Uriah's occupation? I noticed you listed him as Reverend. What information do you know about him as a preacher? Was he a circuit riding preacher? Did he have a church? What denomination? There were some newsletters for certain denominations. These could turn up some dates for you. Hope this helps pat
Hello, My name is Dan Fulghum and I'm new to the list. I am trying to track-down information on my Great-Great-Grandfathers (Rev.) Uriah Parker and Marvel McLendon. Both eventually moved to Bradley County, Arkansas. Uriah Parker was born in Georgia in 1797 and was a veteran of the War of 1812, the Mexican War, and led Parker's Cavalry (CSA) in the Civil War. I have hit brick wall after brick wall in attempting to find the parents and lineage of Uriah. I would appreciate any help. Dan Fulghum Houston, Texas -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. We should not approach death with fear and trembling, repenting and weeping over such things as we left undone, or such things as we should not have done. We should rest assured we have done our best with the gifts and the limitations that were ours, and that our condition in the presence of the Creator will be governed by our record and behavior here. Therefore, let us sing our Death Song, and go out like heroes going home."
I have added some new things to the Twiggs County site. Go take a look at the Historical Sites. Happy Hunting! Tonya Crosby
