Gaila; The old Stone Creek B. C. was located on Riggins Mill Road at the Twiggs/Bibb County line. The new church was built a few miles down the road. All church minutes books from 1808 until the present are available. The state archives in Atlanta has microfilmed all record books and the Washington Memorial Library here in Macon has a copy of the minute books from 1808-1889. According to the membership roll of the church, the following is a listing of the Busby and Johnson's and the date they joined the church. Busbee, Eleader - 1809 Busby, Benjamin - 1827 Busby, Jeremiah - 1822 Busby, Phebe - 1815 Johnson, Mrs. A. W. - 1939 Johnson, Anderson - 1845 Johnson, Bell - 1895 Johnson, Howard - 1929 Johnson, E. oward - 1929 Johnson, Mrs. E. H. - 1929 Johnson, Harold - 1944 Johnson, Helen (Nevins) - 1934 Johnson, Jeremiah - 1843 Johnson, Lucretia - 1843 Johnson, Martha Ann - 1845 Johnson, Mary - 1824 Johnson, Mary D. - 1845 Johnson, Rachel - 1811 Johnson, Rebecca - 1838 Hope this helps. There is information in the Washington Memorial Library in Macon GA. There are some microfilmed records. Hope this helps. Yes, the records did burn. Bess Vaughn Clark has done some very good books in an attempt to reconstruct these records with several books. betty in ga Gemcolleen@aol.com wrote: > I read that the Twiggs Courthouse burned around 1900, destroying most records. > Does anyone know the extent of this damage, and if there are any death, > marriage, and probate records available or existing anywhere for the years > between 1810 - 1850? > > ==== GATWIGGS Mailing List ==== > Visit the Twiggs County GAGenWeb Archives > http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/twiggs.htm > We welcome your material! > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
I read that the Twiggs Courthouse burned around 1900, destroying most records. Does anyone know the extent of this damage, and if there are any death, marriage, and probate records available or existing anywhere for the years between 1810 - 1850?
I am interested in a lookup for the marriage record or license of John SOLOMAN and Rebecca STURDIVANT who married in Twiggs County Georgia in 1820.
