I live in California and am unable to help, but would like to help organize an effort to reclaim/ restore the first "Old Stone Creek" Baptist Church cemetry. If there is anyone interested please let me know. Hopefully we could get the Twigg County historical society to run it. Sam SamsPAD@attbi.com > According to a Bibb Co., Ga. According to a Bibb Co., Ga. Chappell cousin who has ancestors buried at the old Stone Creek cemetery, it is so overgrown that it is no longer accessible without extreme effort. Maybe interested folks could get together and arrange a "reclamation project." I'm too old to help physically, but would be glad to help hire a few strong backs. ----- Original Message ----- From: <SamsPAD@attbi.com> To: <GATWIGGS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 29, 2002 12:14 AM Subject: Re: [GATWIGGS] Re: History of Stone Creek Baptist Church > Has anyone every gone out to the first "Old Stone Creek" > cemetery? I do know of this data, but who was this William? Our own Cloud ancestor (Jeremiah Cloud) claimed to have been born in Twiggs in 1782-1784, while it was still Indian Territory. His eldest son was b. 1800 and was named William, as was William's eldest son. This William you mention may well be a relative of our Jeremiah. Knowing who he is could be a most valuable revelation for those of us who are looking for our ancestor, Jeremiah's, lineage.
I thought I knew where they wer maybe not. Could you give direction to the two indivually? Ann ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Visit www.juno.com

Several of the old graves there are marked but the names are not listed in the book. Stone Creek Cemetery II has a census listing in the above book. I have a copy of it along with many of the cemeteries located in Twiggs County. The book was written in the 1950's and and I do have a copy. Church records for many of these old Baptist churches are located at Mercer University in Macon, GA.

They do have some in their library for a great many of the old churches in that area. There was a publication called HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS OF RICHLAND BAPTIST CHURCH complied by Lanette O'Neal Faulk, I believe in the late 1950's. I don't know where you might find a copy. There was also a publication called, HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS OF RICHLAND BAPTIST CHURCH which was published by the Richland Restoration League, Inc. in 1949. Both of these publications may be available at Mercer.

Unfortunately when the Court House burned, all the records burned with it. It is a difficult county to research. Unless you can find a family member with a copy, you will probably not be able to obtain a copy. Some wills were "refiled" by family members after the fire but most records were lost permanently. Good luck!
