To those who have the name Cloud on their list of ancestors in Twiggs County or elsewhere: Excellent speakers have been lined up for the "Cloud Family Gathering" in Knoxville, TN, over the weekend of 16-18 July. These include noted author and speaker Dr. George Sweitzer, professional genealogist and CFA Historian Jan Cloud, storyteller Jimmy Claborn, and Assoc. Director of the East Tennessee Historical Society Cherel Henderson. This national meeting of members of numerous branches of various Cloud families represents the greatest concentration of knowledge of Cloud history and genealogy to be found anywhere. These national meetings are held in even-numbered years and are supplemented by regional meetings (four in 2003) in odd-numbered years. The Saturday schedule includes a luncheon and the annual 10:00 a.m. meeting of the Cloud Family Association, during which officers for the 2004-2006 term and several other Board members will be elected and the location of the 2006 meeting will be decided. The Sunday schedule includes a trip to Hawkins County and a catered picnic lunch on the banks of Cloud's Creek. An advanced party of Cloud researchers will arrive in Knoxville on Tuesday (7/13/04) and work under the guidance of Historian Jan Cloud to "deCloud" the historical records archived there. Others are invited to join in for either the group effort or pursuit of clues related to individual challenges. Findings will be summarized on Saturday and published in subsequent Cloud Family Journal issues. This "Smokie Mountains" area offers many reasons to consider it for a vacation trip with the added benefit of attending the Cloud Family Gathering. Dr. Ray Shirley, a CFA VP, is the host this year. Over the past 27 years these national meetings have been held in PA, NC, GA, AL, LA, TX, AR, KS, and W. TN. OK and TX are now candidates for 2006. Regional meetings have been held in some of these same states and also in CA. For more information, see: http://mykindred.com/cloud/2004/ or http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cloud/2004/ <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/%7Ecloud/2004/> Please consider marking this on your calendar. He died in 1842 or 1843 in Twiggs County and had 65 slaves in his household in 1810. In the 1840 Twiggs County Census report he was still alive but his wife Nancy Barrs was the head of the household. All their 6 children were still in the household, but most of his slaves had been transferred to his yonger brother's household James Barrs. James Barrs died in Pulaski County GA. I live in northwest Florida and have problems searching cemeteries in Twiggs County. Any assistance or information is appreciated. Hello my fellow researchers, I have updated my web site containing my family history. About 95% of the people are related in someway to my wife or myself (The others are parents of wives or husbands and such). While it contains the names of living people, no information or pictures are shown. I have only been doing this for a few years. I hope that you will enjoy looking at the information. I am sending this to all the sites I subscribe to, hoping for feed back and new and undated information. If you have pictures of some of these people I would love to have a copy to post. There are over 10,000 pages of data. Here are some of the names and locations, Talbot, Talbott, Talbert, Horn, Horne, Sapp, Coody, Holder, Myers, Mason, Gooden, Ansell, Shazer, Shozer, Huey, Collins, Hickle, Ticsnel, Deavers, Shifflett, Roach, De Vers, Taverner, Neale, Devere, McDaniel, Wood, Dean, Kimble, Batton. Thanks so much, Bess. I'll get this file reloaded with the corrections noted. I don't have much influence with the Library here in Waco, as I spend most of my time working on the Internet. Did see that Tonya Crosby has your book listed on the Twiggs County page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gatwiggs/Books.htm I'm glad you're participating in the GATWIGGS-L list, as I know your knowledge will really help researchers.
