I am so excited! You are very kind to answer my e-mail. Do you know anything else about the Shanks? Do you know what hotel Janelle worked in? I have been to the library and found a picture of her sister Carrie (married Wiley Creel) from 1905 and also another book had a picture of the old Shank home that has been restored. I have traced the Shanks and the Loftins ancestry. I have also been to Myrtle Hill cemetery where John Arnold Shank, Lovisa Loftin Shank, Otis A. Shank, etc., are buried. Do your friends, by chance, know about Ida Shank who married J. D. Walker? She was Janelle's sister and her husband was a doctor there in Hogansville. I'm wondering what J. D. Walker's full name was and if they had any children. Ida is buried in the family plot with her parents, but J. D. Walker is not. Maybe she died early and he remarried. My mother-in-law was the granddaughter of Otis A. Shank and Luda Tanner Shank. I can't tell you how excited I am! You've made my day! Bonner >> The mention of LOFTIN and WALKER together intrigues me. Is there a connection other than both of them marrying into the Shanks family? The reason I am asking is that my great grandmother Ida Mae Walker's grandfather's name was William Loftin Walker (b 1780 d 1860). The second reason I wonder if there is a connection to Troup county is that Ida Mae WALKER married Benjamin Franklin TUCKER. They lived in Rockdale county..in 1899 B F TUCKER was the postmaster in ALMON, GA and their only child Thomas Walker TUCKER was born that year. In 1920, Thomas Walker TUCKER ( he went by the name Walker) married a young lady from Troup County, Susie Brooks SMITH, daughter of Charles W. SMITH and Susan A. (Sudie) BROOKS. My question is was there a connection between the Walkers of Rockdale county and Walkers of Troup county? Why else would my grandfather be in Troup county to meet my grandmother? The story I have from my sisters is that our grandparents met on a tennis court. Many thanks to anyone who is interested enough to read this and comment. If I have confused anyone, or if anyone needs more details, please feel free to email privately or to the list. I am NOT a good correspondent tho, I am taking 12 hours of college classes, running a household almost single handedly, and being grandmother to 5 puppies born on TG day... Hope alls TG was wonderful. Lisa Tucker Melvin LisaTM@aol.com
