    1. [GATROUP-L] MARCHMAN/PORTER
    2. Hi, All, Looking for info re JAMES S. PORTER b.? d. 1843 in Troup. Gwinnett 1830 Census shows he had living with him 1 son bet. 1+5 years (JOHN POWELL PORTER, b. 1828) 1 son bet. 10+15 years 1 daughter bet. 1+5 years 1 daughter bet 10+15 years 1 male bet 20+30 --assume was JAMES S. PORTER 1 female bet 20+30--assume was his wife 1 male bet 60+70--assume father of James or his wife Then JAMES must have moved to Troup before his death in 1843. His wife, name unknown, must have pre-deceased him, for Wills of Troup show a CORNELIUS P. MARCHMAN, Adminstrator of his estate , filing returns concerning JAMES S. PORTER's orphan daughter CHARITY ANN PORTER from April 01, 1843 until the final return for 1848, filed on January 27, 1849. This final return still lists: Orphan: CHARITY ANN PORTER and now adds: Legatee: JOHN P. PORTER. I know JOHN P. (POWELL) PORTER was born Jan 16, 1828, so he would have just turned 21 in January, 1849--when last return was filed. So, I suppose he was now able to take over the care of CHARITY ANN PORTER, his younger sister. My questions are: -- Does anyone know cemetery CHARITY PORTER is buried in? Troup Cemetery Records show she died in 1842, buried in a Church or Family Cem. Assume this was wife of JAMES S. PORTER, since this CHARITY PORTER died a year before he did, so is obviously not Charity Ann Porter. My guess is she died giving birth to daughter CHARITY ANN. --How would I go about finding who cared for CHARITY ANN PORTER and JOHN POWELL PORTER before he reached his majority in 1849? --Does anyone have any info on CORNELIUS P. MARCHMAN? --Any ideas how I'd find out what happened to the other children in the family who were shown on the 1830 Gwinnett Census? Sorry to be so long-winded. Hilda, don't know who's attacking you, but keep the faith. You're doing a great job!
