Hi, Hilda, I'm sending my original posting as you said you missed it. I suppose my point is that if I had to join the list now, I would have no way of doing so. I know no one in Troup to recommend me! I would have missed the invaluable information I've gotten, and the folks I've "met" would miss the info I have to offer. I, too, am a member of several lists and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. I do understand your reluctance to put all us "good guys" in potentially unpleasant situations, but I, for one, am willing to have to delete anything distasteful I might run across in exchange for some info from a person living in California who has no "sponsor" because her family has been gone from Troup for three generations. No one from Troup is going to meet her in the local library or at the genealogical society meeting! I really believe we'll miss a lot of opportunities if the only people with whom we can exchange information must already have some sort of "in" with a list subscriber. I know you have a hard job, Hilda. The thought of dealing with all these computer-related issues boggles my mind. So, please know that I appreciate your toiling for the sake of genealogy! Am I understanding this correctly? If I am, it strikes me as a tad elitist and has the definite potential of limiting the usefulness of the list. Please clarify why you are making this policy change. Confess I'm a little naive. From what danger are you trying to protect us? You also seem worried that people have joined the list and not yet posted a message. Another list I'm on actually encourages the new subscriber to "lurk" (their wording, not mine) for a while and see how the list works before posting. Want to add my thanks to those of others. This list has already netted me considerable help, and I appreciate all the time and effort it takes to keep it running smoothly.
