The first record of my husband's family in Georgia was in Deepstep, Washington County, GA. Nathan Veal, Sr. was the first to drop the "e" from the end of VEALE. This bit of knowledge helped in researching this name tremendously. Some of the family moved to Randolph County, AL. where my husband's grandfather, Luther Sanders Veal, Sr., was born. He used Lonnie but Alonza shows up on the census. He never talked about his name and even named my brother Lonnie Aubrey, Jr. I have run into the name Alonza used by other Veals in Georgia so it makes you wonder. Uncle Luther was a favorite Uncle and he came to Atlanta in 1949 to build a home for us. Traveled back to LaGrange on the week-ends.
