AL PARENTS: Unknown MARRIED: 24 Aug 1852, Troup Co., GA to Elizabeth HODNETT b. 10 Mar 1834 Troup Co GA; Elizabeth Hodnett was daughter of William Collier Hodnett (2 May 1793VA- 29 Sep 1863 near West Point, Troup Co GA) and Caroline Finley (24 Jan 1810GA - 9 Jan 1887 Troup Co GA) Both buried in Hodnett Cemetery Land Lot 87 of District 5. MILITARY RECORD for John F Moore: enlisted in Co K (The Evans Guards) of the 13th GA infantry at LaGrange, Troup Co. Ga 8/21/62. This company was formed with men from Troup County. He was wounded in action at the battle of Sharpsburg, Md 9/17/62 and was sent home on wounded furlough from 10/5/62 until he returned 2/12/63. He shows up in a Richmond hospital in June and July of 1864 being treated for chronic dysentry. He then shows as "present" with his regiment on the rolls through Feb of 65. He is captured at Danville, Va 4/6/65 and imprisoned at Point Lookout until he takes his Oath of Allegiance and goes home 6/29/65. His Oath states he is light complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes and 6 ft 1/2 inch tall. He's listed in Lillian Henderson's Roster of Georgia's Confederate Soldiers as being in a company of the 13th which was recruited in Troup County PENSION APPLICATION: filed by J F Moore on 7 Jul 1901, shows 80 acres in Chambers Co. AL value $240.00. Confirms military service as a private in the 13th GA Infantry, Co K mustered in 1861, at West point GA. And discharged April 1865. Wounded at the battle of Sharpsburg, MD. Suffers from Asthma, Acid Consumption. And is age 70, living near Wise, AL. He did sign his application. R J Moore and W D Gaines, MD from Board of Pension Executors, Chambers Co. also signed a statement of health. "Bessie" Moore applied for a Widows Pension July 5, 1905. In a letter from Arrie Harris daughter of Joel and Paulelena Moore Harris, she wrote: Your Grandmother ( Paulelena) have kinfolk, cousins, in Texas. Never seen them, but Mother visited them. ......Your Grandmother had one sister named Minnie Hammock, Mother said she was a wonderful person".
