    1. [GATROUP-L] ALFORD/BARDON in Troup County, Georgia
    2. Cathy M Casper
    3. I am excited to hear about this list. I have just discovered that I have ancestors in Troup County, GA. They are the Alfords. (Before anyone emails me, I am a member of AAFA but I can't seem to get any clear lines here.) I have been told that the Alfords in Troup County are descendants of Lodwick Alford from Franklin County, NC. If anyone out there has a GEDCOM of this line or can send me a descendant's tree, I would appreciate it. That way I can see how what I know fits into what else is there. Thomas Alford + Susan Bardon in 1849. a. Larkin b. Andrew Thomas and Susan were on the 1850 Troup County census with Larkin as a one year old. By 1860, this couple had died and the boys were being raised by an Aunt, Francis Barton/Bardon in Harris County, GA Larkin Alford married Lucia Dent about 1869. They had 3 children: a. Thomas 1870 b. Carrie 1872 c. Fannie 1874 By 1880, they, too had passed away and their children were being raised by the Widow Westbrook, her 2 sons and her father-in-law in Harris County, Ga. Carrie Alford was my great grandmother. I would love to know more about Thomas Alford of Troup County. I would love to see what information has been accumulated on Lodwich Alford of Franklin County in the form of GEDCOM or Descendant's Tree PLEASE! I do not want to hear that I should contact AAFA. 3. Hi Researchers I just came up with one of my ideas to help us get going. Lets have a membership drive. We are up to 51 now and the posts are starting to come in. We are all searching at least four surnames and are probably members of those boards. Lets all send an invitation to the members of that board telling them about us and see how we grow. Ask them to send the subscription notice with a short line telling us what board they heard about us on and the surnames they are searching. Thanks Hilda

    3. Mary The library has moved most of its research material to the archives. However the library still has all the city directories and some other limited material. I didn't get to spend as much time there as I would have like. I only had one day to do research when I was there in May and divided my time between the archives and the Library. The archives is one of the best research facilities I have visited. They have material on other states there also. Two years ago I spent three months in LaGrange taking care of my father. I wish I had been into genealogy at that time. On the other side of my family one of my cousins had been tracing the family tree and would send everone a family newsletter, with information about what she found. She passed away and those newsletters stopped. I really missed her and her letters, so I started wondering where my Dad's family came from and one night typed in search Cobb on the internet and here I am six months later. Enough of my rambling. Happy Labor Day everybody. I have only heard from one person about the county chart. Is it old news are it is helping anyone? Hilda

HA!! Must be about the same age. Well I was a teenager in the late 60's anyway. Hey, ya know what? Strange as it may seem I am actually talkking with someone who was alive when men landed on the moon. I know it sounds stupid but, do you know how many people I talk to each day who weren't alive then? Sounds like we just might be onto something here. Felix McManus is the name I am looking for. I know he married Mary Virginia KELLY arouned 1868 and moved to Montgomery, AL. SHe died around 1878 leaving two children. I have seen his name in the 1850 Montgomery County Census as being 7, so figure 1843 is birth year. Mary was born around 1845 according to the Muscogee Georgia 1850 Census. I again found him only with two children and a new wife in the 1880 Montgomery COunty AL Census....well I didn't someone who did lookups did anyway. We just figure the two children were Mary's. They were old enough to be born around 1870 and 1872 or so. Lucille is definitely a family name from way back. Anna is also but, not Annabelle. Caroline KELLY (Carrie) was born in 1849 GA. She married Jowel (Joel) Walker and As I said I have a reference they lived in West Point. I know they married around 1870 or so, she died in 1880 and left a couple kids. I had the snail mail address to a woman in MI or WI who was researching WALKERS from Troup County and West Point area during this period. I wrote to her but, she never wrote back.... THis is actually all I have. I have the two girls parents names and years of birth according to the 1850 GA Census from Columbus and Muscogee County. I know the two parents were married in Muscogee County in 1842 according to the Marriage Books A and B....but, I have the 1840 Muscogee County Census and no John W. KELLY. If he was a steamboat pilot during this time also he may have also been in Russell County, AL where in 1843 my g-g-grandfather was born. THink I will order that 1840 Census next. Now that is an idea..... Well not much else....Maybe you can help me connect somewhere along the line... Oh by the way, figure we should sen this stuff throught the list since you never know who else is lurking in the background wondering if maybe they have a McManus, Kelly, Walker, et.al.... Mike Kelly firewalker@gibralter.net > > One of my best friends in LaGrange was Gloria McManus. We had some great times for two teenage girls in the late 60's. Her father was Durell McManus he died a few years ago. She has an uncle name J R who collects clocks. I use to love to go to his house with her and see all the clocks. I think there was four brothers and all were quite good basketball players, the were well known in town. > > My mother owned one of the local Beauty shops and my life was very much like the movie Steel Magnolias. I could put a different name to every character in that movie. Another good example of the life in Lagrange is the movie Norma Rae, it was filmed in LaGrange and West Point.
