    1. [GATROUP-L] TRAYLOR connection?
    2. Hello all, I have written out two notes & "lost" them before I could get them sent to the Troup Co. list. I've been looking through my line of TRAYLORS, but didn't immediately see a connection. Does this look familiar to anyone? I have a Josephine TRAYLOR who was married to Micajah HARRIS about 1852 in Randolph Co. (probably). They had 3 children and were divorced about 1865. Josephine then married William Bailey Gosdin and they had 2 children. Son of Josephine TRAYLOR and Micajah HARRIS was William Marshall HARRIS, born 1860, who married M. Eliza Brown. Hilda, enjoying all your posts! Thanks for sharing! You are doing a great job! Barbara

    2. Hilda
    3. I want to say thank you to all of you who have been placing some great posts. I hope you are finding some answers to your questions, and making some good connections. I have been talking to some other list owners, and have heard some horror stories about different things that happened on their list. After talking to them and careful consideration I have decided to make a few changes in the way people subscribe to our list. Since starting the list, I have made repeated attempts to get everyone to participate, but there are still a few who have not done so. I have already changed the setup to no one else will be able to subscribe themselves. If any of you have someone that you would like to join, please send an email to the list and tell us about them and I will mannually subscribe them and send them a welcome message about us instead of the generic one that automatically goes out. If any of you have experienced any problems please notify me immediately so that the matter can be investigated and resolved without further delay. These changes are not to offend anyone but to protect you. Happy Hunting Hilda

Wish I could get to La Grange to see the ROGERS Family Cemetary because I had heard his father might be buried there...if so, wouldn't he qualify as an early pioneer in Troup County? I have found LOTS of ROGERS but HENRY is the only one I have seen anywhere, so if the dates match up I would tend to think he might have been the architect. Thanks for looking, Carole

    3. Rene Have you looked in Clay County Alabama. There are a lot of Hardin and Dodsons there. They have a board called Ran-Clay, it's a good one. Quite a few families moved back and forth between Alabama and Georgia. Nice to have you on our list. 3. Hi everybody and welcome to our new members. Great news for you today, I am not going to post anything. Do have a question for all of you. WHO HAS THE OLDEST ANCESTOR FROM TROUP COUNTY? To our new members we have several today. Please post a brief message and tell us who you are searching. I am working on a reference list for us, but some of us forgot to sign our post. When you respond to who has the oldest, pease give me an initial or nickname to put on the list. One more question. How would you like the reference chart Name and Surname/names and post to the board, or do you want it Name Searching Surname/names and email address so that you can email back and forth. I will go with which ever answer I get the most of. I will put it in the format that I put our county list. Does anyone know how to send a past email with out having to attach it. I save most of your emails on a disk, but when I try to pull them up the only way to send them is by attachment. Thanks for your help Hilda

    1. [GATROUP-L] A Large Shot in the Dark - Hardin family
    2. I don't know if you can help me - but here's my problem. I am looking for a Hardin family that I believe to have been in the Troup Co. area. My ancestor, Lorenzo Hardin was born in 1827. He shows up in the 1850 Meriwether Co. census in the home of a James Shepard as a coachmaker. He married Martha Dodson the daughter of Lott Dodson, has three children, Sarie, Augustus and Margaret and dies before Aug. 1859. There were three Hardin families in Troup Co. in 1830 (I am of course looking in Troup since that's what Meriwether came from), Adam, John and William. Is anyone working on these families who can say yea or nay to whether any of these folks had a Lorenzo born 1827? Thanks, Rene

    1. [GATROUP-L] Stone/Williamson family
    2. Hi everyone: I'm a new member, researching the Stone and Williamson families of the Randolph Co, AL and Carroll, Troup and Coweta Counties in GA. I am particularly interested in finding out about Caleb Stone, b.1836 in Randolph Co, AL, died ? in Carroll Co.?, GA. Caleb's son, my grandfather, James William (JW) Stone was b. in 1854 in Randolph Co., died 1926 in LaGrange, GA. I have very little information about my grandmother, Mary Williamson, b. 1871 in Coweta Co (Newman) and died 1927 in LaGrange. Does anyone know of a good alternative source to the Randolph Co. Court House records that were destroyed in the big fire? Thanks a lot for your help. I love to read about LaGrange and the downtown fountain. Many happy memories from long ago. Cheers, Rita

    3. I posted to the Troup County Query Forum awhile back and got a reponse from a historian in Troup Co. I had a question about my ancestors and received a lot of help from this individual..... which, consequently, sent me off in another direction. *g* Researching Cardwell's and McCluskey's in Troup Co. My ancestors were William Cardwell, b. 1806 and Sarah McCluskey, b. 1809, married in Troup Co. Feb. 21, 1833. They were both born in GA, (according to later census reports) but having a lot of trouble finding their parents.Moved to Coosa Co. AL around 1840. Can anyone shed some light on these individuals? 1. [GATROUP-L] GT Great Day
    2. Hilda
    3. Hi Everybody. I just went to work for 8 hours and look at all these new posts. It is so nice to see everyone helping each other. My cousin Shirley Bowen was well known in LaGrange,Clay and Randolph Counties for her dedication in the Genealogy field. She was a beautiful person and had a great love for searching out our ancestors. Each year four times a year she published a family newsletter. When she passed away over a year ago, I really missed those newsletters and the knowledge I was gaining about my ancestors through her. Each newsletter she would publish a column called "Family Stuff" and try to include an item about each surname on mother her mothers and fathers sides. So far I have not been able to add anything to her work, but hope to someday and dedicate copies of it to the Archives, so when my children or grandchildren go in search of their ancestors the information will be available to them to carry on. I found an old 1994 issue yesterday with this clipping in in since it has two of the surnames that some of you are searching so I thought I would post it here. Most of the material I have at home does not go way back and I am still waiting on the ok to reprint some of Mr Johnson's information. I mailed him a personal letter today. I hope he replies very soon so that I can answer some of your questions. >From the LaGrange Daily News, June 16, 1932 OFFICERS NAMED BY CHURCH GROUP Christian Endeavor Society Organizes Dramatic Society The organization of a dramatic club, the election of officers and plans to send four delegates to the conference to be held July 28 - August 4 at the Southern Union college in Wadley, Ala. featured the business meeting of the senior Christian Endeavor society of the United Congregational-Christian church which was held Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. & Mrs. R. 3. Hi David, Last year I posted a request through the Troup County Archives web site. I heard from Kaye approximately 1 month from my posting. In fact, I waited for some response from them for about 1 week and then posted another request since I hadn't received a response. I did receive 2 responses from Kaye, the first one acknowledging my first request, which she was working on. So, give it some time. I got some pretty thorough information based on the numerous requests I made for information. Shirley Researching Peterson, McLendon, Askew > -----Original Message----- > From: David W.
