Hello everyone, I've been enjoying reading through all your posts. Sorry I've been unable to help anyone, yet. I've posted my information on W. A. D. Brown earlier, and noticed a post with the surname CRUMP listed as being search. My W. A. D. married Sophia CRUMP, 1847, in Elbert Co., GA. That's all I know about any CRUMP, however. I thought I would see if anyone is researching my other BROWN line. This time, I'm looking for parents of William Franklin Brown, born 1878, died Jan. 1, 1969 in Carroll Co., GA. He married Catherine Josephine HARRIS in 1901. They lived in and around Randolph Co., AL, Heard, Troup, & Carroll Co., GA. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is my understanding that parent's, of the deceased, names are on death certificates. I've sent for his from Carroll Co. Clerk, & have also been told that it can take months. Hope that's wrong! I would appreciate any and all help & tips. Thanks, Barbara
I am searching for information about Elizabeth M. Bailey(and family) b. circa 1800 in SC, husband unknown. Her known children are: Jacob Bailey b. circa 1827 GA m. 8 June 1848 Troup Co. GA to Sarah Ann Smith b. circa 1829 GA. Mary A. Bailey b. circa 1826 SC Delila Bailey b. circa 1832 GA Another child could possibly be Elizabeth Bailey who married Jackson Poage in Troup Co GA 2 Sept 1841. We believe this to be the parents of my ggrandfather Andrew Jackson Pogue(grandson of Elizabeth Bailey)who was b. 6 Oct 1843/1848 in Troup Co GA.. In 1840 there is an Elizabeth Bailey listed in the Troup Co GA census. With her is 1 male from 40 to 50 yrs old, 1 female from 30 to 40 yrs old(Elizabeth ?), 2 girls from 15 to 20 yrs old(possibly Elizabeth and Mary A.), 1 girl from 10 to 15 yrs old (possibly Delila), 1 male from 10 to 15 yrs old (possibly Jacob). She owned 6 male slaves and 6 female slaves. In 1850 Elizabeth, Andrew Jackson age 2, and daughters Mary and Delila were in the household of Jacob and family in Troup Co GA. In 1860 Elizabeth, J. A. Pogue, and daughters Mary and Delila were in Troup Co GA. Jacob, Sarah and 5 girls were in Upson Co GA. In 1870 Elizabeth and daughters were in Talladega Co AL next door to Andrew Jackson and family. In 1880 Mary Bailey listed as an aunt was living with Andrew and family in Talladega Co AL. If anyone can make a connection or has any information about these people, I would be glad to share any material I have on them. Thanks. Marilyn Baker

I'm still looking for ANY information on Bays / Bayes and Oxford families in Troup County. Lucinda "Lucy" Bayes Oxford married Abraham Haynes in 1834. It was a second marriage for him and possibly for her also. Are marriage records available in the county courthouse for that time period or do I need to sent to the Archives for a copy? Doris in west Texas

Hi everyone Thanks Melvin for clearing up the differences. I wish I had your knowledge. Ok everybody glad to see we are back on line. It is so good to hear from all you that we haven't heard from before. Why don't your refresh our memory on who you are searching? Hilda

Their program works on a differnet concept from the Rootsweb program. I think (someone please correct me if I am wrong) is that you register your surname with them and then your query is placed on their website. People can review these queries and then post a query of their own to that person. I have not had much luck with this, but then again the ones I posted are my brick wall lines. The Troup County GAGenWeb Project is a part of the USGenWeb Project at http://www.usgenweb.org/. The purpose of the project is to put resource materials valuable to family genealogists on the WWW for free use by everyone. It is a strictly volunteer effort. The Troup County project is a web page. It is not a mailing list. It is on Rootsweb at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gatroup/ The way the query system works is that you post your query to the query forum and it shows up instantly. The surname list is automatically updated every week. > David posted a couple of queries telling you about his web site which has some excellent links posted on it and a great site to check out. His posts to our list requested that you answer directly to the link he put at the bottom of the post. When doing so it took you to his web page or to that person (I don't remember). I would like to see answers to post come to the board, so that those of you who may be connected to that line could see the answers and join in. I asked him if he would consider doing this, and he decided to leave the list instead. So if you need to contact him please email him or visit his web site. He didn't put the link at the bottom of the post. That is done by the computer query board and he just forwarded the message to the list. You requested that he not post the queries to the list anymore. He hasn't. Not everybody that posts to the Troup County query board is on this list. If the response is posted only to this list, then the person who made the original post might never see it. Melvin
Hi everyone we have gone from the noisest group on rootsweb and getting sent messages that Rootsweb is down twice, to the zombie zone. Is everybody engrossed in the Stark Report? Just wanted to say that when posting to the board, or on the internet, if you are relating a bad experience don't use names. Use a general term such as person, use organization instead of the actual name, you never know who is reviewing the archives and why. Please keep that general idea in mind. Sometime it can also add fuel to a fire that is only smothering. It also alerts others that their could be a problem and they are very hesitant to answer your posts. Keep you posts light upbeat and informative, and you are much more likely to get results. Also any information you get from the internet, should only be used as a clue you should always seek proper documentation for all your ancestors. Another good thing to always remember is to post the source. If you got it from Bill's Book then say this information came from Bill's book. This helps the person you are sharing with know where to go to get the documentation. Try to always give credit to the person who shared that information with you. Does anyone else have any good tips, to share with us? Looking forward to hearing your ideas. Hilda
Hi Glenda Great post, I have a question for you. My dad use to point to a house when we would go buy there and say a cousin of mine lives there. His family was not very close so this is why it is like finding a needle in a hate stack. Nobody laugh please, but the girl that lived there was in my tap dancing class. (Ok I can hear you) and her last name was Moon. In any of your information do you have the names Cobb or Copeland, connected with the Moon? Would be very interested to know. The dance studio was located across the street from my mom's beauty shop, so needless to say I spent my afternoons there. I can twirl a baton too, and ballet, jazz and even had ballroom dancing. I looked so cute in my tutu. Ok that's the joke of the day. Again, keep us posted as you learn more about your family. Anyone connected. Hats off to Cathy, hope someone can help her also. Hilda

Hi List, Just wanted to repost my Troup county connection to see if anyone out there can connect. My ALFORDS were in Troup County in the early 1800s. I haven't been able to take them back any further than Thomas who married Susan BARDON or BARTON or BASTON in 1849 Troup County. They are on the 1850 Troup county census with a young son, Larkin, 1 year old. They have another son, Andrew two years later. By 1860, they have passed away and the two boys are living with an aunt, Francis Baston (on census) in Harris County, GA. I would like to know more about this Bardon family. Her name is listed as BARDONon the marriage certificate but I have seen it written in the Alford information as BARTON and the aunt's name was listed as BASTON. Also, I am always interested in Alford information. I know there is a family group and I am a member but I would like to talk to more people than just the president of that group. Anbody out there doing Alfords who are willing to talk about them without being monitored by Gil? He has given me erroneous information by the way. I would like to know what happened to this couple: how they died and why the children went to her family and not to his. I would like to know who their parents were and their siblings. Anybody out there know of this family besides the AAFA? Hello Everyone, I am not quite sure how to post to one of these things, so forgive my ackwardness. My Staples family was in Troup County before 1850, and like most of my family went on to Chambers and Tallapoosa Counties in Alabama. I keep looking for all those other family names as well. :-) Thomas STAPLES (b. 1796 in VA, d. 24 Sept 1869 Chambers Co.,Ala) married three times ( #1 Polly HERNDON, Nancy ENGLAND, and Mary W. S. (?) ENGLAND). Children: William J. STAPLES (b. 1824 GA d. 29 Dec 1890 ALA) m. Angeline JOHNSON (married 5 Dec. 1848 in Troup Co) (Note: William J. is my direct line) Other children: Lindsey H. STAPLES (B. 1829 m. Margaret Jane JOHNSON 1852 Troup Co and then Elizabeth M. STROLLER), Mary Ann STAPLES, (B. 1831 married John F. GASTON), Thomas STAPLES (B. 1836) John F. STAPLES (B. ?) , David Robinson STAPLES (b. 15 Oct. 1819 married Mary Ann MOON), Elizabeth STAPLES (B. ?), Sarah Manley STAPLES (b. 10 Oct 1822 d. 12 May 1903 married Young Allen MOON), and Tabitha STAPLES, (b. 18 Sept. 1826 d. 1 Oct 1867 married W. S. DENNEY). I have quite a bit of information on this line and would gladly share my files with anyone interested in this line. May I say too, how nice it is to have the opportunity to find others interested in research in the same area and to share hints to make our search easier. Hope you are having great good luck with your research, Glenda
Hi everyone glad to see all these posts coming in and Thank you all again for being a part of this great group. Those of you who are still shy about posting please do so soon. We would like to get to know you too. There is one thing that came to my attention that I would like to put my two cents in on. During our flurish of activity I noticed a post from one of our members to David Morgan. David is the Troup County Coordinator for another source. Second penny. I'm not sure how the Troup County Archives is staffed, but the day I was fortunate to visit, it was a very busy place. Genealogy has become a very popular activity and more people are tracing their roots every day. I am sure Kaye is bombarded with requests and probably gets hundreds a day. So when writing to her please be patient. She does answer your request personaly and her answer to mine was very helpful and also took a month or so to receive. I had to wait threee months to get a birth certificate from the state, but when these answers came I was so excited I forgot about the wait. A possible solution for us could be (just an idea), is that if anyone on our list lives near or in LaGrange, has some extra time might volunteer to do some looks up for the members of our list. Maybe he/she and Kaye could work something out to help us get our answers back faster. Any volunteers? I sure as we grow, Kaye will refer people to the list. Try to plan a trip to the archives sometimes, you will be very impressed at the reference material they have for LaGrange, Georgia and even other states. Be sure to visit their website it is a fun site with lots of interesting things to view. Take a look at some of the pictures, it gives you an insite on some of the history. Ok, that's my two cents on this subject. Remember that the purpose of this group to help each other with problems, discuss good research sources, make connections to our families, meet new people and share ideas or thoughts. We all have the fact that we have a root somewhere in Troup County in common. Hilda
Hilda, I am getting you post. JudyB
Hi Lisa, Welcome to the list. Know you will enjoy it. I'm Joan Ball and your surname interests me. I have a ggggrandmother Susannah Warren and have just started researching her line.
