    1. Re: [GATROUP] Shank
    2. Colleen, Thank you so much! I am so excited! You are very kind to answer my e-mail. Do you know anything else about the Shanks? Do you know what hotel Janelle worked in? I have been to the library and found a picture of her sister Carrie (married Wiley Creel) from 1905 and also another book had a picture of the old Shank home that has been restored. I have traced the Shanks and the Loftins ancestry. I have also been to Myrtle Hill cemetery where John Arnold Shank, Lovisa Loftin Shank, Otis A. Shank, etc., are buried. Do your friends, by chance, know about Ida Shank who married J. D. Walker? She was Janelle's sister and her husband was a doctor there in Hogansville. I'm wondering what J. D. Walker's full name was and if they had any children. Ida is buried in the family plot with her parents, but J. D. Walker is not. Maybe she died early and he remarried. My mother-in-law was the granddaughter of Otis A. Shank and Luda Tanner Shank. I can't tell you how excited I am! You've made my day! Bonner

    3. I don't have anything whatsoever in my files on Troup County, GA WALKER's. I have an autobiography of my great-great-grandfather William Charles KELLY that states his sister Caroline married a Jowel WALKER about 1868 and moved to West Point, (Troup County) GA and she died in 1880. Wish I had more....This is one of those unions and people that I am at a dead end, my Aunt before her death searched for many years and no one has been able to find anything. All we know is that she left at least two children. I figured in 12 years of marriage prior to her death somewhere she left or Jowel left some sort of paper trail . I just have to find it is all....YEAH OK, RIGHT!!!...LOL Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: <BonBonSass@aol.com> To: <GATROUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 12, 1999 10:26 PM Subject: Re: [GATROUP] Will Abstracts > Mike, > > Do you have a Dr. J. 3. Kaye and list members, Alright, then I will ask ? I am looking for the Will of Caroline (nee KELLY) WALKER who is alleged to have passed away in 1880. My g-g-grandfathers autobiography says his sister died in 1880. When she married Jowel (Joel) WALKER in abt. 1869 they moved or lived in West Point, Troup County, GA... As far as I am aware of Caroline is her only name...she may have gone by Carrie. Thank you very much for your help. I am at a dead end of this line and need a big break. I am hoping this might be the break I am looking for.... Mike Kelly <snip> > There is an estates records book for Troup County which the Troup County > Historical Society published. 3. Regarding will abstracts, while you are checking, I wonder if you could see if there is anything for Stephen Saunders. His wife, Beulah Smedley, remarried Jesse Burgess Haralson in Troup County on May 30, 1837. Have not been able to determine what happened to Stephen. The name was later changed to Sanders, but believe Stephen may have still been using Saunders spelling. His daughter, Samantha Saunders married William A. Waller in 1841 in Troup County. 2. Kaye, Thank you for helping me! The names are: 1. John Arnold Shank, died 1896, Hogansville, Troup County 2. Lovissa Loftin Shank (his wife), died 1916, Hogansville, Troup County They had a daughter named Jamelle (not sure of the spelling). She married Ed ? and they had a daughter named Mozelle (not sure of that spelling, either). Jamelle ran a hotel in Hogansville after Ed evidently died early. I am really wanting to know if Jamelle or Mozelle are mentioned in one of those wills because I would like to find out Ed's last name. You are kind to offer to help me and I really appreciate it. 3. Bonner, If you by chance find anything whatsoever would you please let me know? I have been searching for three years for a Jowel WALKER who married my great-great-grandfathers sister. The marriage was about 1867 and I know they moved to Troup County, GA. She died between 1872 and 1880 leaving at least two children. I have reference to this occuring in an autobiography of William Charles KELLY. I would make good odds that there is kinship here somewhere, I just need to find the connection. I figure since she died early in the marriage that maybe no one has a record of it or if so, it would be a small record somewhere. 1. [GATROUP] Shank/Shanks Family, Troup County, Georgia
    2. I am researching the Shank/Shanks family in Troup County, Georgia. In the 1870 Troup County Georgia Census, there are three Shanks families that were ennumerated. 1. 238/238 Shanks, J. A., 40, Farmer, b. Ga Shanks, L. A., 30, F Shanks, J. M., 8, F Shanks, O. A., 7, M Shanks, A. C., 6, F Shanks, E. F., 4 mos., F This family consisted of John Arnold Shanks, Lovissa A. Loftin Shanks, Jamelle M. Shanks, Otis Arnold Shanks, Arnie C. Shanks (married L. N. Willingham), Etta Frank Shanks. 2. 241/241 Shanks, J. A., Jr., 50, Farm Hand Shanks, Sallie, 42 Shanks, Celestia, 18 Shanks, John, 20 Shanks, Fannie, 13 Shanks, Christopher, 10 Shanks, Frank, 8 3. 415/415 Shanks, J. A., Sr., 54, Farmer, Ga Shanks, Sarah, 40 Shanks, Celestia, 18 Shanks, Fannie, 15 Shanks, Christopher, 13 Shanks, B. F., 9 It appears to me that families #2 and #3 were the same and actually one family that was ennumerated twice. I would like to know the relationship between these Shank families. Is anyone researching Shanks? Also, Ida Shank, sister of John Arnold Shank married a Dr. J. D. Walker. I would like to know about the Walker family. Finally, I would like to know what happened to Jamelle Shank from family #1. Any information on these families would be most appreciated! Thank you, Bonner
