I didn't know either. I was just searching while my scanner is doing some work and leaving me bored to sleepyness. Not good at work! I did happen to have some notes in my satchel. Francis (Frank) and Elizabeth were married Dec 9th 1888. I may need to check this date in the original. If an eight was written poorly it could have been 1883. The date was taken from a scanned image out of a book that was converted to text by OCR, Optical Character Recognition. This could be the source of the error (If it exists). It seems strange that there would be a five year difference between the relinquishment of the land and her marriage. And I think that we have enough information to establish that they are the same person. I would be interested in getting a copy of your research. If you have or have access to a paper scanner you could scan the information that you have and email it to me. My home email is: umajor@wirelessbeehive.com. That would save you postage and time. JPEG (.jpg) files are fine. On black and white information I scan at 100 dpi gray scale. Text (books and typewritten) I scan at 3 or 400 dpi OCR. (black or white). I note that your email address is an au.edu. Would that per chance be the University of Alabama? My father was born in Tuscaloosa and has family back to the 1840s. With the step daughter's name, Holloway, we now have a lead on her mother's first husband. ______ Holloway of TN. Interesting. Something else to look at. Well, I'd better close this missive. I have a bus to intercept. (I doubt that I could catch any bus... Especially if it was past me and moving away.) I had all but given up hop of ever getting any concrete responses from anyone. You must refresh my memory. Where is Thomas County? Is it TN? I have only been able to trace back to about 1848, when William Henry purchased land in Tuscaloosa County. The family did not keep very good records. This is actually my husbands family line. His father died two years ago and no other brothers left. I been yearning for any info no matter how small. I will be delighted to share with you everything I have. Do you know if Elizabeth is Elizabeth H. The 1860 census shows an Elvira H (7 yrs old) I have a copy of W.H.'s Last Will and testament of 1861, left a parcel of land to his beloved step-daughter, Amanda Holloway as long as she remained single and also gave to his beloved son Albert A. Chesnutt and two daughters Elizabeth H. and Lucy P. Chesnutte described parcels of land. In 1883 (after he died) there are E.H. Chesnutt relinquished to her brother her land. Do you know what year she married Francis Boothe? This is new information for me. I knew nothing much about his children except for Albert. This legal document was witnessed by EH. Chesnutt, G.W. Grisit and a Lucy P. Grisit (her sister Lucy I assumed married this G.W. Grisit, but I have never been able to find any thing on either one of the after this. I only always assumed that WH's wife Mary was widowed and we thought it was TN but not completely sure. In the Tuskaloosa Times Gazette 1881-1886, the obit for Mary reads as follows: May 5, 1886, Wed, Died at her home in Hughes Bottom on the 2nd inst., Mrs. Melvina Chesnutt of heart disease. Any way, I am babbling. I will be glad to scan or photocopy and mail you all the bits of info I have on William Henry. I am so excited to find out more if possible. Look forward to hearing from you. This email is at my work, which is fine to send to. I work M-F so that's why I use it.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0d.2ADE/564.603.2 Message Board Post: Pam, I have an Elizabeth Chestnut, dau of W.H. Chestnut (1880 Census) that married my ggrandfather, Francis Boothe of Tuscaloosa Co., AL. I have just started to look seriously at this line since I took it over from my mother, Cleone (Walker) Langley (deceased) several years ago and would like to enlarge my records on her family. She was the 2nd wife of Frank's and although it appears that although they had no issue she played a major roll in raising the children. You may very well have looked at the following avenues of research. If so I would be interested in your data. If not, I'll try to contribute what I can. In looking at the 1860 Census data I note that William Henry's wife, Mary, was born in Tennessee as was 'his beloved step daughter, Miranda.' This implies that her original family was in Tennessee in 1839 and as Mary was born there that the family up to that time had also lived there. This further suggests that William may have married her in TN after 1839 and then moved to Alabama. I won't be able to look up the 1850 Census until I can get to the Family History Library in SLC (probably tomorrow - I live 53 miles and work 3 miles from there.) but the ages and birthyears of the other Siblings that you listed from the other (1850?) Census' may suggest when they moved. Breaks in the birth pattern may suggest when and in which state that they married in. Probably TN as most widows wouldn't be able to move freely as they would be tied to their husbands farm/propertyif he had an estate. Also, if Mary's first marriage can be found then perhaps a probate would follow which may provide even more information. I do hope that I hear from you in the near term. I found your message on GenForum and was concerned that after four years you might not be findable. In this case, a two year separation in messages and the consistency of your searching give me more hope of making contact. Thank you for your time. Charley C. Langley Jr.

Not trying to be a know it all, but don't want folks looking for an incorrect name. There is also a Gen. Society bearing his name, Huxford Gen Society & a Library by the name in Homerville, Clinch Co, GA - a fine place to research. There are mistakes to be sure, because more info has turned up over the years since Huxford did his research - but thank goodness to Judge Folks Huxford for the work which he did - was a huge help to me in starting out! ps - there is also a Web site for the Huxford Gen. Society. I have also just been told by one about Prof. Crowley's work - thanks for reminding me I need to look for that! shs

From the book it appears that Henry was anti-missionary and served as moderator of a Primitive Baptist Associationion south Ga/north Fl. This book is "Primitive Baptists of the Wiregrass South" by John G. Crowley. I do not have access to a copy but another book may contain info on one or more of the Miltons, " History of the Baptist Denomination in Georgia" in two volumes by Samuel Boykin. Am not sure of any mention in this book but it is the most detailed history of the Baptists in Georgia. Another idea that may produce results is to contact the research people at Mercer University Library and as if they have info/ideas. You might also write the editor of the Georgia Baptist Paper, "Christian Index" and ask people! to check the local church histories for the 1815-1850 era. Sorry this is the best this old Cracker can do.
