Believe it may fall into my own Gable family. I think if you will visit the Gable Family mailing list, you may well find the address there. Try typing in The Gable Family of the South, and it might present itself. Cousin Carl Gable organized this site. May I ask why you posted this Gable querey to Thomas County, Ga.? I ask because I found some Gable burials there and am trying to find out just who they were. In Thomasville City Cemetery are the following Gable burials: Gable, Emma 2/6/1870-3/19/1949 Gable, GEORGE 7/5/1903-4/11/1943 Gable, Gussie 10/14/1905-3/17/1966 Gable, Henry E. 1/1/1908-7/8/1952 Gable, Herbert, 8/11/1912-8/27/1956 Gable, Jack 10/3/1872-9/29/1960 In Pebble Hill E-2 Workers Cemetery Gable, John died Sept. 29, 1911 I you can't find the Gable Family of the South-do let me know and I will send the proper address. Surnames: LEWIS PEACOCK Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0d.2ADE/1405 Message Board Post: I am seeking information on the Prior Lewis listed in the 1850 Thomas County, Georgia census. One of his daughters listed in this census is Mary age 5. I believe this is my great, great grandmother. The information I have on her is that she was born April 25, 1845 in Thomas County and married Henry Peacock June 17, 1866. This is the only real information I have on her. I hope this is her family listed in the census. Thanks!

    3. I also have a Reuben Wilson (b 1811 NC) in my ancestry who came to Thomas County from Screven County and was born around Wilmington, North Carolina. He was the brother of my ggg grandfather James Wilson. I believe he is the Reuben Wilson who is on the Thomas County census from 1840 through 1880 with a son named Alderman Wilson and wife Catherine. There was also a brother named Francis Wilson.. A lot of the family worked for the railroad. Do you know of any connections? I would love to compare notes. 3. Any excellent resourse in reguards to Camp Davis is a book researched and written by Jimmy E. Arnsdorff. Southern Historical Press. Jimmy published this book in 1994. THOSE GALLANT GEORGIANS WHO FOUGHT IN THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATES. It encompasses Effingham County's participation on the Civil War. Coves a wealth of military information! Chapter 22 is titled "Camp Davis and Guyton General Hospital." Pages 558-565. Perhaps some of you have seen this publication. "When soldiers died, their bodies were usually shipped to their home for burial. However, in the event that no-one knew the idenity of a soldier (no Dog Tages then), they were buried at the Guyton Cemetery in the UNKNOWN SECTION." THERE WERE SEVERAL REGIMENTS ORGANIZED right there at Camp Davis. The 54th being one of them. Happy to do any lookups for anyone interested. Judy V. Mason

After corresponding with several people, I believe my gggrandfather is buried in an unmarked grave with others there near Guyton. I would love to visit that area, and won't give up on finding the general area of his grave. Touching about the oak tree.....can just see them there young and scared and brave... There is a part of the Guyton Cemetery set aside with a nice marker for the unknown Confederates buried there. Thanks again, Sylvia

The plantation house sits at the end of a long driveway. The highway was actually the rail line. The soldiers would debark the train at the frontage of the property. The house is in excellent condition as are the grounds about it (friends of mine own it). My gg grandfather (50th GA Inf) was stationed there before traveling to VA. A huge oak stands behind the house, one can easily imagine our ancestors having been in the shade of its younger size.
