I do know that in 1850 census he is married to Minerva Lillard living in Murray Co. with children: James 11; Rebecca 9; Benjamin 5; Emiline 2. He was born in Ga. Minerva NC. I do not have any info on Elizabeth Bellow after the divorce and have not see any data on any children by her. I feel certain he is a son of Benjamin Gates and Jane Vernon, but do not have data to prove except the repeating of similar family names such as James, Rebecca, and Benjamin.
