My great grandfather was Michel C. Gates, b. March 1859 in Lawrence Co MO...that is the far sw corner of MO. The family removed to AR after the civil war....BUT Mike C had a grandfather also named Michael. I have never found a middle initial for him tho. Michel/Mikel was born 1811 in KY. He married a Catherine Ann Cline in Sumner Co TN in 1830. They gradually moved west to MO. During the war most of the Gates men fought for the Confederacy and by wars end had left Lawrence Co. I have a hunch some went to KS or perhaps TX....In any event Michael and Catherine just completely disapear before 1870. Not to be found anywhere so far. No records or evidence of death. Might there be a connection?
