I am wonderding if we could be related in anyway. My gg-grandfather was THOMAS WATERMAN GATES born 1821 in New York. He came out to Oregon on the Oregon trail in 1847, married CYNTHIA YORK in Joseph, Oregon on the trail.They settled in Yamhill Co. for a few years before moving on to Milwaukie, Oregon where they raised their family. Thomas Gates also had a brother , ALONZO GATES who lived near by him in Milwaukie. I understand that a family member was the Mayor of Portland,Oregon at one time but I do not know who that was. THOMAS GATES died in 1878 and his wife,CYNTHIA YORK GATES drowned in the Columbia River in 1874. They had 7 children. I am very interested to know something about your GATES family and where they came from and who the siblings were. Dottie in CA.
