The names you mention do not ring a bell with me however. Here is what little I have on the Gates/Grubb connection in my line. My gr gr aunt, Ellen Gates married an unnamed Grubb in Lawrence Co MO probably about 1853-1855. In the 1860 Lawrence Co MO census I find Ellen as head of household, no mention of husband. She is 29 y.o.born in TN. With her is John W. Grubb, 6 y.o. born in MO.James Grubb age 3 y.o. born MO, Franklin 9 months old also born MO. Also in her household is Nancy Gates, I believe her to be sister of Ellen Gates Grubb. Nancy is 22 y.o. born in IN. There is an indication however that she is not a permanet member of the household. Perhaps helping out after the death of Mr Grubb? There is a record of the marriage of Ellen to Mr Grubb, but at the moment it is not at my fingertips. Ellen has a brother named John Wesley who lives nearby, and believe her husband was John. She also had a brother named Simpson Franklin Gates. Fairly! strong naming pattern here.
