They are indeed my gr gr gr & gr gr gr gr grandparents. That census was a God send for me. I just wish I could find them in the 1840 census...still looking for that one. The J.P. Gates listed in the 1850 Wayne Co IL census had 3 other brothers who settled in and stayed in IL, Sangamon Co I believe. I have not worked that line too much. I believe their names were George, Michael and John, went by the name of Goetz prior to their fathers death. Thanks for e-mailing me...who knows, we may yet run into one another again.
