Dear List, I have in my family research several ladies named Sudie. Like the above mentioned names as well as Sudie Lewis, Sudie Dowdy, Sudie Nipper and Sudie Reid among others. I am wondering if someone can tell me if Sudie is the given name or is this a nick name that is prevalent in Georgia. Thanks for any help, Emma
Hi Emma, This info came from a genealogy article, "How well do you know your name," by Donna Murray Allen, in the St. Petersburg Times, published February 13, 2003: Polly, Molly and Mary were used interchangeably in the 1800s. Sadie, Sudie and Sally were popular derivatives of Sarah. Hope this helps, Lorraine ----- Original Message ----- From: EMMA SANDERS<mailto:emaeis@wildblue.net> To: Telfair County mailing list<mailto:GATELFAI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 08, 2009 5:33 PM Subject: [GATELFAIR] Sudie Conley, Sudie Spires Dear List, I have in my family research several ladies named Sudie.
