I am aware of the census records you listed and of how much or how little information was given in the census records. I am also aware that they are not necessarily accurate. However, from the land records I have seen it is possible that the Hilliards, for example, came from NC. There are records of a Dennis Hilliard owning land in Cumberland Co., NC. I have looked as records for Laurens Co., GA (and Telfair Co.). There is very little information I have found on Michael Conley, so far, in Laurens Co. 8 March 1816 Marriage of Michael Conley to Edna Greene in Laurens Co., GA 18 Oct 1816 Selected as Juror in Laurens Co. Jun 1820 Same Jun 1825 same 24 Mar witness to a sale of land from Henry Dominy (probably Dorminy) and Nathan Mettze of Laurens Co. Sep 1832 Listed in Inventory of the estate of Robert Coats in Laurens Co. Sep 1832 Listed in the probate records for the estate of Levi Nobles Oct 1832 Listed as the defendant in a court case in Laurens Co. Dennis Hilliard was also listed in court records in Laurens Co. in the same instance as Michael Conley. Both were to receive money from the estate of Levi Nobles in Sep 1832 Both Dennis Hilliard and Michael Conley consistently list NC as their birth state and I am inclined to pursue this lead (not fact) until I find evidence that proves otherwise. I have found no evidence (yet) to show that Michael Conley was in Laurens Co. before 1816 when he married Edna Greene there. There is strong evidence (per Elizabeth Shown Mills) that many families would migrate in groups from the same area to a new location. I was only wondering if anyone had done research on the families I listed and determined where they were from in NC. My hypothesis is that they may have traveled together.
