Hello Folks, The Huxford Genealogical Society of Homerville, Clinch Co., Georgia invites you to join your friends and neighbors for the once in a lifetime Grand Opening of the new Huxford-Spear Genealogy Library at the Municipal Complex in Homerville, Georgia. This is a FREE event! Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded. Please R.S.V.P. via Facebook (Huxford-Spear Library) or by email to Elmer Spear at espear1943@gmail.com, so we can plan food and door prizes for this event. This 'new' Huxford - Spear Library is going to be a great new genealogical experience. The Grand Opening will be Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the regular Huxford Society Quarterly Meeting. The library will open at 10:00 a.m. on this Sunday for your researching enjoyment and the Grand Opening celebration and lecture will begin at 2:00 p.m. Elmer Spear will be the speaker for this celebration (speaking about the new additions to the library). If you haven't heard, the very large and excellent Elmer Spear Genealogy Library from Madison, Florida was closed last year and the contents of this great library are being transferred to the new Huxford-Spear Library in Homerville (a donation made by Elmer Spear to the Huxford Genealogical Society). The Huxford-Spear Library will have genealogical reference books from every state in the Union and several foreign countries. The primary focus of this library is still the southeastern U.S., but this new library will also have many resources for the New England states, the mid Atlantic states and the mid West states (especially for Ohio). This combined library will house both the original Huxford Library collection and the Spear Library collection; Over 30,000 genealogy books and other research materials in the new library will be a great resource for all genealogy enthusiasts. You can't depend on the Internet for all of your research. Please mark your calendar for the Grand Opening. If you can't make the Grand Opening, plan on a visit to Homerville in the near future. Many of the reference books from both libraries will be back on the shelves in the new library by late January. The Homerville Municipal Complex, which houses the Huxford-Spear Library has been modernized and refurbished for the new library. The floor space allocated to the library has been more than tripled. Please make every effort to visit the new Huxford-Spear Library in the coming months. You will be glad you did. While you are there, please help support this wonderful library in the heart of Wiregrass Georgia by joining the Huxford Society and if feasible making a contribution of funds or your unique reference material (like your own family history). You should also consider submitting biographical sketches (to be published by the Huxford Genealogical Society) for your ancestors who were once residents of the Wiregrass Region of Alabama, Georgia, or Florida. Having your sketches and brick walls published by the Huxford Genealogical Society will enhance the likelihood you will be able to expand your knowledge of your family history when the thousands of Wiregrass Georgia researchers see your sketches in the Huxford Quarterly Magazine. By the way, I (Robert B. Noles) will be available during the Grand Opening to answer your questions about genetic genealogy (DNA testing for your family history research). Your descendants will be very disappointed, if they don't find your DNA test results on file. Rob Noles Robert B. Noles rbnoles@bellsouth.net
