Family rumor has David Sikes born in NC fleaing to GA after he burned down a church in the 1880's. We have no ideal who his parents, brothers and sisters were. Wish we could connect them. You said you are related..do you have any family pictures? This Harris family has another link to a Sikes family. Lewis Harris was the son of William Taylor Harris of Pike County Georgia. William Taylor Harris had an older brother named Thomas Johnson Harris who died a POW in the Civil War. He married a Lavinia Ann Sikes. Thomas Johnson Harris and William Taylor Harris also had a sister named Martha Louise Harris who married John R. Sikes, the younger brother of Lavinia Ann Sikes. Both were children of a John Sikes of Monroe Co. Georgia. This John Sikes married a Baggett...I can't remember her first name but it is in my records somewhere. Is there any relation? Vance C. Is this the correct one? The age on the 1920 census is not clear, it could be a 5, 3 or 8. Probably an 8. The 1930 census is also confusing: he is listed as age 17, married at 19, wife 19 married at age 17. If the census is within a year or two of the correct age, I would think that it's the correct person.99% of the entries on the census are incorrect and a goodly number of tomstones also have the wrong date. My husband has an uncle that I've found a different age on the 1910,1920, 1930 census; WW I draft card; tomstone; social security dob. Good guess as to which date is correct! If he died in Telfair County, maybe some one can do a look-up for you in the county library. Bernice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Is there anyway we can verify for sure that the William L. Harris buried in the Scotland City Cemetery is Lewis' son William? In the 1930 Census, he is living with his mother and is married to an Estelle. There is an Estelle Harris Stephenson buried in the Scotland City cemetery. She is supposedly buried next to a Rubin A. Stephenson. Her birth year matches the wife of William L. Harris in the 1930 Census...but the birth date of William L. Harris in that cemetery doesn't match the census. It probably is him. Where would be the best place to check to see if I can get an obituary? The obituary I have for Lewis came from a Pike County newspaper (where Lewis was born) it just mentions him being survived by two children. It would be interesting to get my hands on the obituary of William L. Harris. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But now my question turns to Freddie Harris. I don't have ancestry so I can't look at the actual census image. But in 1910 Lewis and his wife Maud are living in Erick, Montgomery Co. Georgia. I know this is the same family because they have a Grover Rogers living with them who is listed as Lewis' brother-in-law proving his wife is Maud Rogers. They only have one son in that census named Freddie aged 10 months...which puts him being born in 1909. I have been trying to figure out if there is anyway Thad could be mistaken for Freddie in the Hand writing. Either Freddie is the other name for Thad or it was just a census error. Lewis appears in the 1920 Telfair Co. Census listed as Louis Harris. He was married to Maude Rogers. In 1910, he appears to be living in Montgomery Co. Georgia. a Lewis Harris appears in that Census with a wife named Maud and a son named Freddie. In the 1920 Telfair Co. Census, Him and Maude have two children, a son named Thad Harris who was born about 1910..and who is probably the same person as Freddie. and a son named William L. Harris who was born around 1915. Lewis Harris was born on March 28, 1884 in Pike County Georgia, a son of William Taylor Harris and Martha Frances Jones. Lewis died in Telfair Co. Georgia near Scotland on April 25, 1926. He is buried in the Scotland Georgia City Cemetery. His wife Maude was born on Dec 15, 1890 and died on April 29, 1968 in Baldwin Co. Georgia (according to the GA death index). She is buried next to Lewis in the Scotland City Cemetery. In the 1930 Telfair County Census, Maude listed as Maudie is head of household. She again has two children, Thad and William L. Harris living with her also an Estelle Harris is listed as a daughter-in-law. This Estelle was probably the wife of William L. Harris. There is a William L. Harris and Estelle Harris also buried in the Scotland City Cemetery and this William is probably the son of Lewis, but his birth date doesn't match the census information. I have been unable to locate information on Thad. There was a Thad Harris who was born on Oct 22, 1910 in Georgia and died in Sept 1966 but I have been unable to find out any additional information. So I would love to learn any additional information about Thad and William L. Harris and their families. Any help would be appreciated. Laslie. Rebecca was my great great grandmother. Thomas Laslie was her second husband. I know that Thomas died in April of 1889. Rebecca died sometime after June 1 of 1900 when the census was taken. I really hope to find out when and where she died, and where she is buried. After your leads on the books by Tad Evans, I contacted him. He has some of his books for sale, and I have ordered a couple of them-for the dates that I'm looking for. He does not have a date of death or place of death for Rebecca. I have tried every avenue that I can think of to find a list of people buried in Dodge County, but so far I'm not having any luck. I know that Thomas was buried in Chauncey City Cemetery, and I would assume that Rebecca was buried there with him. Any ideas on how to find a list of people buried in that cemetery? A lot of cemeteries are listed on the web with a list of people buried there, but no luck for Chauncey. I appreciate both of you helping. Thanks for taking your time to do this.
