    3. Hi, Last night I finished reading a very interesting book, titled "Blind Obedience", by Bill Boyd. I saw a posting with the names Carter & Jowers, and thought I would mention it. It is about the most famous trail in Georgia history. The Carter/Rawlins feud. Very interesting reading. Has anyone else read it? Kay PS..has many more names in it.

Surnames: BRANCH, CARDELL, COOPER, KELLY/KELLEY, LOVINGOOD Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ad.2ADI/1113 Message Board Post: Hi all, I'm new to this county board, but I am looking for some COOPERs. Specifically, a C. COOPER who was listed as a surviving brother in the 1964 obituary of my husband's great grandmother, Idella C. BRANCH. Two other surviving brothers were listed as T. J. COOPER of McRae and A. M. COOPER of Warner Robbins. C. S. COOPER was listed as being of Jacksonville, Georgia. (surviving sisters were Mrs. M. L. GILDER and Mrs. D. C. CONLEY of Macon and Mrs. J. H. PITTS of Vidalia.) I found a "C. COOPER" in the SSDI having died June 1974 and being a resident of Jacksonville, Georgia, so I am hoping this is the C. S. COOPER I'm looking for. The SSDI also listed for COOPERs in Telfair County an Annie S. COOPER, b. 12 Oct 1897, d. 12 June 1992, who I am hoping may be his wife. (ironic how they were both born in the same month and died in the same month, though different years) Do these names sound familiar to anyone? BTW, the parents of these COOPERs are Henry COOPER and Emily Jane GRIMES of Laurens County, Georgia. Can anyone do an obit lookup for these two COOPERs in the Jacksonville or Telfair County newspaper(s)? I'd be so grateful and would be happy to reimburse copying and postage costs. Thank you! Karla

    3. As a list mom myself, I see the point of not posting all of this info to a mailing list. Some people are on many, many lists (I am on about 20 related to genealogy and another 15 or so related to other topics). Also, some people have to pay their internet cost based on the quantity and size of downloads (i.e., mail). Subbing to lists where there are a lot of such posts of lots of "general" info that may or may not ever be relevant to them could start to pose enough of a problem that they have to decide whether they can even afford to belong to that list. I'm sure it could have been said more nicely. But it's also the case that probably the best place for this kind of info is at a site that you reference in a link in your email (much more permanent). Some ideas might be to create a tagline for your email posts (see the Help section of your mail program) that tells people you have the resource and are posting the info therein at site "xyz"; or putting something in there about your willingness to do lookups. In these two ways, you also are making the information available for the long-term, not just to those people who happen to be subbed to the list at the moment you post it. Here's another idea. Go to this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~bwo/ and get added as a volunteer to do lookups. A lot of people check and use this site (I'm a volunteer there, as well), and you actually have the ability to reach a lot more people. Plus, doing a single lookup for a single name might actually be more manageable than transcribing the book in its entirety. There may also be issues related to copyright--I'm less familiar with this aspect but have come across discussion about the pros and cons of copying info from books and other sources. Anyway, HTH.
