I'm also interested and kin to the Parkers and Studstills. My primary families are the Cravey, McCranie, and Brown families, The first Brown family is Jesse Brown born 1795 in Forks of Edisto, SC, died aft 1860, married Mary (Polly) Harrelson born 31 Jan 1790 in Caswell Co., NC, died aft 1850 in Montgomery Co., GA. They were married in Laurens Co, GA 28 Nov 1817. My other Brown family is Frederick Brown, and I don't have anything on him except he died at the Battle of King's Mountain, NC on 7 Oct 1780. His heirs were granted 740 acres for his Revolutionary War service. The only heir I know of is Phillip Brown born 1762 in Mecklenburg, NC and died in Irwin Co., GA on 5 Dec 1855.

My father-in-law will soon be 92 in a couple of weeks. You have quite an opportunity to find some very wonderful family treasures in your father's things, so it's probably a mixed blessing that he was not so hasty to throw things away. There isn't by any chance on old Lowery family Bible laying around, is there? Some of my grandmother's old photos were accidentally sold in a box of things at her auction. How that happened I'm still trying to figure out! :~( It's funny you should mention the Lowery spelling. I've found the name for the same family spelled Lowry, Lowery, and even Lowrey, so it may have been at the mercy of the census taker or court house personel. My father in-law spelled the name without the "e", but he only went to the 4th grade, and I discovered that every single Lowery family still living in the area where he was born spelled the name with the "ery" in the phone book. He claims he's not related to them, but records have proven otherwise. At a Celtic Gathering we were told that "Laurie" was probably more close to the original spelling. Of course, one of the websites states it was O'Lowry and the "O" was dropped to Americanize the surname. There's probably some variation of the ones who migrated from Ireland (probably Irish Catholic)and those who migrated from Scotland (probably staunch Presbyterians). I've been stuck on William Lowery for quite a long time. I think he may be the one mentioned in George Washington's papers of 1772-1774 (Vol. 9). Also trying to determine if William's mother was a Magill, since he was listed as a nephew in the will of James Magill. If you have any clues or ideas on this, I'd appreciate your insight. Thanks. Jan

We know them as Andrew Lowery and Angelany Loftin. I am not the Jerry Lowry ( he lived in Texas and obviously did not know how to spell Lowery:-)) It is always hard to figure my grandfather being born in 1861. Trying to clean house of someone that never threw anything away is interesting. Found a tintype photo negative of William Harvey Sumner 1817 in Georgia who is my grandmothers grandfather. Will see if our son Michael (owns a photography store can make some prints) Again thanks for the thoughts, Jerry and Jerry Lowery, Rickreall Oregon.

We probably have same roots, may be cousins. Briefly, you need to check other (derivative) counties - and check out county lineages. For instance: 1807 Telfair Co., GA formed from Wilkinson and Appling. 1818 Irwin Co. formed from Indian Lands, Telfair and Coffee. 1825 Thomas Co. formed from Baker, Decatur, Irwin, Loundes 1854 Coffee County contributed areas to formation of Clinch, Irwin, and Loundes. 1856 Coffee and Telfair had a child county: Berrien! I've learned families could live in different counties over a span of years and never have moved at all! Other divisions were made after 1900. Give me a hoot at [email protected] jj
