I thought this was a very interesting deed. Does someone know the relationship between James Lockett and the Darden family? Taylor Co. Deed Bk B pg 492 Received of Solomon H. Lockett, legatee of last will of James Lockett, late of Jones County, 14th Dis 170 acre lying on Flint River Lot number not known in possession of Abner Darden as tenent bound on north by Flint River, on east by David Beeland, on south by Jesse D. Beal, and on west by lands belonging to Estate of John Davis...we hereby agree to receive from Solomon Lockett in lieu of the right and claim of will of deceased died possessed in county of Crawford under the 7th item of said will: "I give and bequeath until Ufrasia Darden and Elizabeth Darden, children of Abner Darden and to the survivor of the them: two Negroes Ben and his wife, Rhoda and the right to cultivate so much of my lands yearly situated in the county of Crawford as can be vultivated by said Negroes and the said Abner Darden by himself for the purpose of raising and support and maintenance fairly for the said Ufrasia Darden and Elizabeth Darden, and their father and mother...none to be subject to debts of Abner Darden, the negroes to revert to my estate after said bequeathed and their father and mother." For the aforementioned sum of money we hereby agree to release said deceased estate from all further claimes....and agree to receive said described property for our life time and at the death of all of us property reverts to the estate of said deceased in conformity to the will.
