News of the Death of Mrs. R. Hume Smith Source of Much Sorrow Here On April 25th, at 7 a.m. at her home in Seattle, Washington, occurred the death of Mrs. R. Hume Smith after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Smith will be remembered as Miss Carrie Neisler of this city, and is a sister of Hon. C.H. Neisler and Mr. J.H. Neisler, of Reynolds, also Mrs. H.R. Frierson, of Macon, the latter of whom was enroute to her bedside when she passed away. In June 1901 Miss Neisler was happily married to Mr. R. Hume Smith, formerly of this county and brother of Mrs. J.C. Sealy of Butler, since which time they have made their home in the west. Two charming daughters have blessed this union who are now bowed in sorrow by the death of a devoted mother. They are 17 and 11 years of age, ages when a mother’s love and companionship is most needed. The remains of Mrs. Smith will be shipped here for interment, it is understood, interment to be either at Butler or Crowell which is yet to be determined. The body will be accompanied by Mrs. Frierson and the family of the deceased who will make their future home in this section. The death of Mrs. Smith is deplored by many friends. She was a woman of the highest Christian character deeply beloved by all who knew her. The grief-stricken husband, daughters and other relatives have the Herald’s deepest sympathy. Walden and took from their midst their little darling, the light and hope of their life. She was a little sunbeam in their lives and the lives of others. She was the brightest and most heavenly little girl we ever knew. She was too pure for this sinful world and God took her all to Himself. When we gather flowers we gather the most beautiful and tender buds for our bouquets, so God plucked for His flower garden the beautiful, tender spirit of the little darling to be transplanted in Heaven. He wanted the most beautiful and precious jewel to illuminate the windows of Heaven, so he called little Martha. Every Sunday morning she would call for “daddy to come on and lets go to Sunday school” and we believe she had a conception of Christ, tho only three years, two months and twenty-four days old at the time of her death. During her illness of thirteen days she would say: “I want to see Jesus and I want to go to Jesus.” Her disease was of such a nature that she was blind and deaf, but her little spirit is with Jesus and there are blind ones there. She would often visit her grandparents and as she entered the room she would say “Granddaddy I’ve come to see you”, no longer will she say this but in Heaven she can say to granddaddy and to all “you have come to see me.” We know not how many souls have been saved by this bright little girl’s short life. It is so sad to us all and especially to the fond parents, for everywhere they look there is something to remind them of their darling. But the ties of Heaven are made more precious and stronger by her having gone. She is sweetly resting in Jesus’ arms, but it seems to us she should have been spared to brighten lives along her pathway, but God knew best and He is too wise to err. To the heart-crushed parents in this their darkest and saddest hour we can only ask God to look on them in tender mercy and ask Him for help and guidance and may they be comforted by Him and His words. As I was one of the lucky ones to be assigned to the 3rd U.S. Regular Army Division. The first seven divisions are composed of the Army of Occupation, with much pleasure to me to be with the 3rd Division. But believe me it don’t take no mama’s baby to be here but as I was a great hand for sport, this life down on the Rhine suits me. I spent about one month pleasantly in France. During my time in France I visited many cities and I found it to be like other counties, you can’t see anything unless you look for it. H.C. Walker and Thomas Carson have been with me most of the time. We have seen sights that will never be forgotten. Speaking of France being noted for having pretty women, we have some very good looking women in Neckenich. They look like a real American girl, just a little different lingo, but I have just about gotten to where I can speak German very well and have gotten to where I can hardly speak English. H.C. Walker, Thomas Carson and myself are staying here and letting home-sick boys go back to bone dry states. Yours truly, Brooks Posey Co B 8th M.G. Bn., 3rd Div. A.P.O. 740, American Ex. F. While she had been in feeble health for sometime, her death came very unexpectedly as it was thought she was somewhat improved. She was missed from her sister’s sick room for some time and becoming alarmed at her continued absence her sister, who was confined to her bed, went out to find her. Upon reaching the chicken yard she found her lifeless body lying prostrate on the ground. These two sisters, Mrs. Hill and Miss Lou Meeks, have lived for years on their farm south of Reynolds, where they have enjoyed the love and companionship of each other. Their devotion was beautiful. The companionship of one so dearly loved will be sorely missed. May the good Lord give this devoted and lonely sister the strength to bear this great loss and sorrow. Mrs. Hill was in every sense a Christian woman, much-loved by her family and friends. She is survived by one brother, Mr. Berry Meeks, of Columbus, and three sisters, Miss Lou Meeks and Mrs. Alice Carter, of Reynolds, and Mrs. J.E. Windham, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Mrs. Hill was born Nov.6, 1856, and died March 20, 1919. Her remains were interred in the family cemetery on Friday p.m. at 4 o’clock. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J.H. Allen, of Reynolds, and Rev. L.E. Pierce,of Mauk. 3. The September Tracer was mailed September 15, 2005 and I have only talked to one member who has received theirs in Warner Robins, Georgia as of September 22. That is 7 days, it only took the Pony Express 5 days from Saint Louis, Mo. to Calif. Someone in the Macon Post Office told us it is supposed to take 7-10 days for local delivery, but in 10 years of mailing it has only been about 2 days for local mail. Bad service!! I plan to file a complaint in Macon today. John R. Adams -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 1. Colonial Wills
    2. Virginia Crilley
    3. If your family was in "early Colonial Georgia" you'll want to check out these wills. Most of them are in excellent condition, and fairly easy to read and transcribe. If you do find a family member, please transcribe it, so it will then show up in "search engines" over on our County sites. These were all done when there were no counties -- just Parishes. But I did a google for "St. Johns parish - Georgia" and discovered it became Liberty County. http://www.sos.state.ga.us/archives/ Colonial Wills, 1733-1778. This series consists of wills probated in the Colony of Georgia. There are thirty-two wills from the Trustee period, 1733-1753. After Georgia became a royal colony in 1754, the governor acted as Ordinary or appointed an official to carry out such duties. The Ordinary probated wills and administered estates by appointing executors, provided instructions to administrators for the inventory and appraisal of an estate, and appointed guardians for minor children. These documents are the copies submitted to the Ordinary for transcription into volumes as the official record copies. The series includes wills in French and in German, some of which include English translations. Each will includes the name of the testator, the date and residence of the testator when the will was written, bequests, and any instructions regarding the estate of the decedant. Most wills are accompanied by attestations of the will with the date the will was proved and/or the date the will was recorded. Some wills include codicils, letters of administration, warrants of appraisement, and estate inventories. These documents were not always written on separate sheets; attestations were often recorded on the will itself. Each of these documents has several dates. The date indexed here is the date that was inscribed on the outside when documents were folded to a uniform size for filing. If the document has no inscription, the date listed is the date the will was written. These records are from Record Group 049-01-02, Colony of Georgia -- Wills.

    3. I'd like to get some information on-line to help people searching for their roots, and hoped someone might help me out about the African-American Antioch Baptist Church. http://www.christianindex.org/593.article.print This is a wonderful story of Antioch church, and it stated that the African-American was formed in 1869. Where is this one located? Is there a cemetery right next to it? I'd really like to put on-line a listing of addresses for current African-American Churches. If anyone has an old telephone directory that they could help me.... or just type them out. I'm going to need help knowing for sure which ones are white and which ones are African-American. Cemeteries is also something we are always trying to improve on. Please pass this note along to anyone that you know that isn't on-line, but who might be willing to help us with information. Thanks.. I only recently found out my great grandmother's name and am very eager to learn about her and the rest of the Roquemore family. At the time of her death she lived on Route 3 in Butler. My grandmother was a black woman and she was married twice, Henry Mims and to Kenny Gray. She had children by both husbands. My grandfather was Tyler Paul Mims. He died on October 8, 1960 in Talbot. Rumor has it he was killed in a car accident. Tyler married twice, maybe three times the first marriage was to my grandmother Mildred from SC and then he married a woman named Bessie from Waynesboro. He had children by both. My family has recently met Tyler's children by Bessie who live in Waynesboro and we have also met descendants of Julia through her marriage to Kenny Gray. I am interested in the Roquemore relatives and tracing the Mims line. Thank you for your reply.
