Scott, about eight years of age occurred at an early hour yesterday morning. The little girl having been afflicted practically all of her life death was not entirely unexpected, but is nonetheless deplored by the parents, who have given her every care and attention possible with the hope of relieving her of her affliction. Through all her illness she was a most lovable child and will be sadly missed in the home, as well as by the many friends she had made. Byrd, Tuesday night after an illness of several days. While her death was not unexpected, yet her going has cast a gloom over the entire community in which she lived. She had been a resident of Panhandle district from early childhood, and the quiet Christian graces which dominated her life, the virtues of her every day life in the home and among her neighbors won for herself a name which is rather to be chosen than great riches. She was a true Christian woman in every walk of life. She had been a member of the Methodist church at Crowells since her childhood, and not only loyal to the church, but to the cause of Christ and the advancement of His Kingdom. Her remains were interred in the Crowells cemetery yesterday afternoon, the funeral service conducted by Rev. J.T. Adams, in the presence of many sorrowing relatives and a host of sympathizing friends. She is survived by one son, Mr. R.E. Byrd, four daughters, Mrs. G.J. Young, Mrs. T.D. Philmon, Mrs. J.A. Philmon, Mrs. H.W. Windham; one brother, Mr. W.E. Dixon, of Phenix City, Ala. Eubanks and took their baby, Carrie Maud. Her stay on earth was short. She was nine months old; butlong enough for them to learn to love and their hearts had become entwined with her love that it was hard to see her suffer as she did for five days. With the assistance of two physicians all was done that could be to no avail, and to stand by and see her little life ebb away was so hard. But Christ said: Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the kingdom of heaven. So now dear father and mother dry your tears and look not to the tomb for your darling for God has prepared a home for her and has taken her to it. No doubt she will be at the pearly gate with the throng of loved ones to welcome you home when your stay on earth is done. God doeth all things well and for our good. There is a tie stronger than ever to bind you to the glory world. Written by her auntie, Mrs. E.H. Jarrell, Jack Jarrell as he was familiarly known among his very large circle of admiring friends, died at his home, 12 miles north of Butler, at 3 oclock Wednesday morning. In point of native ability, good judgment, progressive conceptions and high ideals, the deceased was above the average of his day. He was a recognized leader in agricultural pursuits, and a strong factor in the upbuilding of his community morally and otherwise. And withal he was a fine type of that old time gentleman in every sense of the word. A gentleman in deportment in his home, among his fellow menand in his dealings with the public. He will be sadly missed, not only in his home and in his community, but throughout the county. Mr. Jarrell is survived by six children, Messrs. B.H., T.D., S.J. and E.E. Jarrell, Mrs. T.J. Mr. Harris was seventy-seven years of age, a confederate veteran and a life long citizen of the county, and who, during his long life of citizenship, was true to his convictions, he was ever found upon the side of morality, truth and sobriety, and his long life of fellowship with the Methodist church will tell for good in the ages to come. Mr. Harris was one of the prime movers and strong supporters in starting and maintaining the Butler Camp Ground, seven miles north of Butler, and each and all found shelter at his tent and sustenance at his well supplied table. None were turned away. Mr. Harris had been twice married. By the first union one son was born, Thomas J. Harris, who preceded his father to the grave several months ago. His second marriage was to Miss Stella Neisler, who is left with a bleeding heart and darkened home to survive him. He is also survived by several grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Smith and Miss Anna Harris, of Gray, Ga. Also one brother whose residence is at Gray. The remains of Mr. Harris were interred at Grays cemetery last Saturday afternoon, the funeral service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. L.A. Harrell, assisted by Rev. M.T. Gaultney. Taylor County GaArchives News.....Beautiful Home of Dr. C.F. Fickling Destroyed By Fire - 1919 May 15, 1919 ************************************************ Copyright. Fickling Destroyed By Fire Fire has again visited our town and laid the beautiful home of Dr. C.F. Fickling in ashes. The alarm of fire was sounded just before twelve oclock Tuesday night, the fire having originated in the garage, which was on the premises. Soon the dwelling caught near the top of the roof, which being very steep, it was almost impossible to extinguish and soon the entire building was aflame and completely consumed. As soon as the alarm of fire was given, the good people of Butler, ever ready and willing, quickly responded, saving practically all the furniture, though some in a damaged condition. The people of Butler are to be complimented; though wrapped in slumber at the dead hour of the night, readily arose and put forth heroic efforts to save from destruction the property which was menaced. The home of Dr. Fickling was one of the prettiest in town and was built only a few years ago, and while partly covered by insurance, the loss will fall very heavy on him, and especially so at this time with building material so very high. He was fortunate in saving his two cars which were in the garage, also his fine cow. Dr. Fickling has the sympathy of a host of friends in this, his financial misfortune. Smith, a well-known citizen of this county, seventy-eight years of age, died at his home seven miles northwest of Butler, last Wednesday night, May the 7th. Mr. Smith had been very feeble for quite awhile, and while his death was not unexpected, yet the parting was sad. He had long been a resident of Taylor County and had a large number of strong personal friends. He was a valiant soldier in the Confederate army , and was proud of the gray he wore and the cause which he espoused and gave the best days of his young manhood to defend. Mr. Smith and Mr. Harris, two Confederate veterans of this county passing away during the past week to answer the bugle call in the great beyond, tells in language unmistakeable how rapidly the line of gray is being thinned. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife and the following children, by his first marriage, Mr. Ed Smith, of Manchester, Mr. Will Smith, of Woodbury, and Mr. Lem Smith, of Atlanta, also one daughter, Mrs. John H. Adams, of near Howard. He was a stepfather also to the following children by his second wife, Messrs. James Aultman, of Killeen, Texas, John Aultman, of Rupert, George Aultman, of Howard and Ambrey Aultman of the A.E.F., France. His remains were interred at Union cemetery, the funeral service was conducted by Rev. L.A. Harrell. The parlors were beautifully decorated with cut flower and ferns. The bride, who is of a brunette type was strikingly handsome in a going away costume of blue tricotine cloth with accessories to match and carried a shower bouquet of brides roses. Rev. J.W. Herin, father of the bride, was the officiating minister. To the strains of the wedding march played by Miss Minnie Herin the bridal party entered, Mrs. H.P. Herin acting as matron of honor. During the afternoon they motored to the home of Mrs. William H. Parks, mother of the groom, of Reynolds, where they with many invited guests and other members of the family were entertained at a six oclock dinner. No occasion was ever more typical of Southern hospitality than this one. The spacious hall was a scene of beauty with decorations of pink and green. In the dining room with lights aglow the guests were served to a five course dinner, the centerpiece was a large crystal bowl filled with nasturtions. Mr. Parks is one of Taylor Countys hustling young farmers. Among those attending the wedding from here were Miss Sara Emma Parks, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Windham and son, Mr. A.I. Parks and Mr. Clarence Oliver, Mrs. John Johnson, and daughter, Elizabeth, of Fort Valley. Everyone should check to see if they received their August Tracer last month. I didn't, and I've now heard of another person who didn't receive it. So just take a look and be sure you do have it. John Adams is working with the post office about the Sept. one, so he also needs to know about any missing Aug issues. Virginia

Mr. Willis was stricken Friday night of last week with pneumonia and grew rapidly worse until the end came Tuesday night. He was always in the lead in any movement which tended to the betterment and uplift of his community, and was an enthusiastic church worker, being liberal in all charitable cases. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church at Howard. Mr. Willis was 45 years old, a son of Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Willis, of this county. Several years ago he was married to Miss Dickey, daughter of Dr. J.T. Dickey, of Howard, and of this union there are two sons and one daughter, who with his wife survive him. It is indeed sad to give up one of our friends who was of his disposition. His death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of many friends and relatives. We will miss his kindly smile and friendly greeting and long to feel his genial presence, but will bow in humble submission to the will of the All Wise Father, who knoweth and doeth all things best. The funeral and interment was at Wesley church yesterday afternoon, an unusually large crowd attending the funeral which was conducted by Rev. L.A. Harrell. The Butler Herald Thursday, May 8, 1919 Page Six Card of Thanks We take this means of expressing our heartfelt thanks to those who were so kind and good to us during the sickness and death of our dear husband and father.
