Hi. Mikki Martin recently posted a short newspaper article about Mrs. Elizabeth Rhodes who died Nov. 14, 1899, in Greene Co. Mrs. Elizabeth Rhodes of the article was Elizabeth Harris Bristow, sister of my great-grandmother, Sarah Olivia (Bristow) Taylor. They were daughters of Chesley Bristow and Martha "Patsy" Harris. Elizabeth Harris Bristow was born July 14, 1820 in GA, died Nov. 14 1899, Greene Co. She was married Sept. 11, 1851 in Taliaferro Co., to Asa Rhodes, son of Allen and Jemima Rhodes. Both Elizabeth and Asa are buried at Bethany Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Greene Co. The brother mentioned in the article was Alonzo Castle Bristow. He was visiting his mother, who was then staying with Elizabeth and Asa Rhodes, and was just sitting on the porch when the Union soldiers shot and killed him.
