I separated out the Co D....so we could concentrate on these names. 1)Any ideas about how the name might have originated, "Tilly's Rangers"... many times this was a benefactor who helped supply the company with equipment. Was there a Tilly / Tilley family in Taliaferro? 2)Since their term was a relatively short one, it could be they were older (or younger) than the normal soldier. Also they may have later joined another unit. 3)Pension applications help with some of the history of the company. I'd sure like to find out where they actually served. If you find someone on this list, and have not ordered their pension file, Washington Memorial Library in Macon will copy the pension for you....just for the cost of copying and mail it to you. I can give you the e-mail to write to. 3rd Regiment Cavalry (State Guards) Company D The State Guard Cavalry Unit from Taliaferro County, GA was the "Tilly Rangers," commanded by Edmund N.
