(Courtesy of Don Mercer.) Rev. Herman Mercer "Rev. Herman Mercer is no more! The protracted and multiplied sufferings of this servant of the Lord were ended by death, on Friday, 13th January at 6 o clock, A.M., at the house of his son, George Franklin Mercer, near Ochussee, Jackson county, Fla., in the 70th year of this age. The venerable and beloved brother, Joshua Mercer, with other affectionate relatives and friends, remained with him till his death and returned from their last mournful duties magnifying the power of the grace of God, as manifested in the last days of this long afflicted disciple of Christ. While his senses continued, he uniformly and calmly expressed his unshaken confidence in the great Atonement and although he thought, if permitted to live longer, he could be of further service to this family, he hesitated not to declare his unreserved submission to the will of his divine Master. How glorious to do thus! That our death may be like his, we must copy his life. 4 REGIMENT (BOOTH'S), GEORGIA MILITIA. 1 LIEUTENANT Received 1 draw in 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery in 601st Georgia Militia District for having been a Soldier in the Last War (Revolution). Clerk of Superior Court, Taliaferro County and Inferior Court in Taliaferro County buried in Greene County uring my search of Crawfordville Cemeteries and deed of The Edwards family I came across the descendant of George L Bird, which most of the Bird information came from. Buford married Polly Keeling on January 4, 1806, in Wilkes County, Georgia. On January 3, 1806, a marriage license was issued to "Blewford Bird" and Polly Keeling" by D. Terrell, Wilkes County Court Ordinary. The marriage was solemnized the next day by William Jones, J.P. The marriage license filed by the Wilkes County Courthouse in Washington, Georgia, appears to have been re-recorded for some reason in the next century, which could be the reason Buford's name is so badly misspelled. A couple of clues to this is that they were written on legal papers dated with the words "Nineteen Hundred", which were crossed out with the year 1808 written beside of it. That in its self is the other clue. Above the certificate, the marriage license issue date is listed as January 3, 1806. Whatever the case, the transcriber did a poor job recording the new license. Thanks Shannon Dale Bird, it has been great talking to you the last couple of years during my research in Crawfordville. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- ELLINGTON, JOSIAH, Sr. "Advanced in life."
