Andrews which took place this morning at 10 o’clock at the home of his niece, Mrs. J. H. Callahan. He suffered a fracture of the hip last summer and since that time, has never been really well; and has declined rapidly in health since the death of his wife, Mrs. Mary Reid Andrews, about two months ago. Judge Andrews, who was 78 years of age, has served as ordinary of Taliaferro county for 28 years and his close attention to his business is proverbial throughout the county. He read law under the late Alexander H. Stephens, and during his service as judge of superior court for several years, it was said that never once was his decision reversed by the supreme court. He was a graduate of Mercer University. During his long tenure of office as ordinary he has never had opposition. Having lost his only child, several years ago, no immediate member of his family survives, although he has a number of nieces and nephews in Taliaferro county, and other relatives in that county, and Greene county. Mr. Pierre Ramp, Miss Ramp and Mrs. Ada Ramp Walden are the Augusta relatives of Judge Andrews. The Augusta Chronicle, Monday March 11, 1929 FUNERAL HELD FOR JUDGE M. Z. ANDREWS May Floral Offerings Attest His Popularity Special to The Chronicle Crawfordville, Ga., Mar. 10 – The funeral of Judge Marshall Z. Andrews took place Saturday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. John Callahan, the services being conducted by Rev. G. S. Steed of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. A. G. McInnis of the Presbyterian church and the interment followed in Crawfordville cemetery. Many floral offerings and the presence of a large concourse of friends expressed the esteem in which he was held. No resident of the county was more greatly beloved than Judge Andrews. Of high ideals, a man who spoke naught but good of any one; and whose life, politically and otherwise, was entirely without reproach, he possessed the staunchest of friends in all walks of life, all of whom will mourn his demise. Additional Comments: Marshall Z. Andrews was born in August 1850, Greene Co., GA, died March 8, 1929, Taliaferro Co., son of Warren Andrews and America Darden. He was married September 21, 1881, Taliaferro Co., to Mary Cornelia Reid, daughter of Benjamin Reid and Eliza A. Rhodes. Judge Andrews and his wife had one child, a son Roland Stanhope Andrews, born February 19, 1882, died February 26, 1924. All are buried at Crawfordville Cemetery but no tombstones have been found. M. ANDREWS Crawfordville, Ga., Jan. 14 – A large concourse of friends attended the funeral obsequies this afternoon of Mrs. Mary Reid Andrews, whose death occurred Sunday night and whose remains were laid to rest in the Crawfordville cemetery at 3 o’clock. Although Mrs. Andrews had been ill for several years, never having recovered from the effects of a stroke, pneumonia following an attack of influenza was the direct cause of her death. She is survived by her husband, Judge Marshall Z. Andrews, on sister, Mrs. Lot L. Oslin, and a number of nieces and nephews. The only child of Judge and Mrs. Andrews, Roland Andrews, passed away three years ago. Mrs. Andrews was a Miss Mary Reid, a member of a pioneer family of Taliaferro county, and one who has for many generations been prominently associated with the social, religious and civic life of the county. She was a cultured woman and before her health failed, was always a factor in the social life of the town, a favorite particularly with the young people, and her home always one of hospitality. Many beautiful floral tributes testified to the regard in which she held. Serving as pall bearers were Ralph Golucke, Russell T. Reid, R. L. Hillis, S. W. Wynn, R. L. Taylor and J. P. Ellington, the officiating minister being Rev. George Steed, pastor of the Baptist church, of which the deceased was a member; assisted by Rev. A. G. McInnes, of the Presbyterian church. Z. ANDREWS SLOWLY IMPROVING Crawfordville, Ga., Aug. 17 – News received in Crawfordville this week from the Washington General Hospital where Judge M. Z. Andrews, Ordinary of Taliaferro county, was taken several weeks ago following the fracture of his left hip in a fall, state that he is doing nicely, and that while improvement is slow because of his advanced age, he is apparently on the road to complete recovery. Judge Andrews is 77 years of age, and has been Ordinary of Taliaferro county for more than twenty-five years and was nominated in the primary last spring for another four-year term. He has not had opposition in several years, which shows the high esteem in which he is held by the people of the county. The announcement that he is improving is very gratifying news to every citizen of the county. The Augusta Chronicle, Saturday September 29, 1928 JUDGE ANDREWS IS SLOWLY IMPROVING Crawfordville, Ga – The many friends of Judge M. Z. Andrews, ordinary of Taliaferro county, are very much gratified to know that his injured hip, which was broken in a fall last summer, is now almost well. Z. Andrews Began New Term Thursday Crawfordville, Ga, Jan. 3 – Judge M. Z. Andrews began Thursday a new term of office as Ordinary of Taliaferro County. He has held the office continuously since Jan. 1, 1901 without opposition. By virtue of his office, he is also clerk of the board of county commissioners and doubtless has a record very few officers can boast of, as he has never during the past twenty four years failed to meet with the board. During that time, especially when the new courthouse was being built, there have been numerous called meetings and his attendance applies to these as well as to the regular meetings of the board. While now well advanced in years, Judge Andrews has not been confined to his bed on account of sickness forty- eight hours during the past fifty years. Z. Andrews, ordinary of Taliaferro county, and by virtue of that office also clerk of board of county commissioners, has a rather unusual record in point of punctuality as well as enviable record as an official. Judge Andrews assumed the duties of this office the first of January 1901, and from the beginning of his term to the ordinary’s court and meeting of county commissioners this week he has never been absent from his office any first Monday, the day for ordinary’s court, or any first Tuesday, the day for the meeting of county commissioners. This means that he has held his court without missing a term for 125[?-blurred] terms and that he has served the county commissioners as clerk for 126 meetings without missing a single time. This is rather a remarkable record, but from indications Judge Andrews will continue to hold these offices for some time to come and will doubtless make his record in these particulars even more remarkable. As the guests arrived they were served a salad course with hot chocolate by Misses Emmie Kate Bristow and Elizabeth Asbury, who wore while net over yellow with yellow girdles. A, Pp. 296-299 Written: April 1, 1856 Recorded: January 24, 1863 Will of Charles Beazley. In the name of God, Amen! I CHARLES BEAZLEY of the State of Georgia and County of Taliaferro, being of sound mind and disposing memory and in usual bodily health but knowing the great uncertainty of life and being desireous of having all proper and necessary arrangements made for the disposal of my property in case of death do now touching all the worldly effects whereof I may die possessed make declare and publish this my last will & testament, herby revoking canceling and annulling all and every other will or wills heretofore made by me- Item 1st. It is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first paid by my Executor out of my estate. Item Second - All the balance of my property which under the blessing of God I may have at my death I wish divided between MY BELOVED WIFE CATHERINE BEAZLEY and all my Children upon the principals of justice and equity and so that there may be no hard feelings between any of them. And for this object and purpose in as much as MY PRESENT WIFES FATHER MR. JOHN STEWART OF VA now deceased gave me Six Hundred dollars for her with this I bought land and afterwards I received from his estate the amount of Three Thousand dollars which he by will though informally made and executed wished secured to her and her children and in as much as it is my desire that his will and wish in this particular shall be complied with, by me, it is therefore my will & desire that my property after the payment of my debts &c shall be divided between my beloved present wife Catherine & all my children as well – those I have by her as the four by my former wife in the following manner – this is to say – I wish her first to select out of my estate thirty six hundred dollars worth of property to be taken at the value put upon it by the lawful appraisers to be appointed by the Court to appraise the property of my estate – this thirty six hundred dollars worth of property to consist of land or negroes, both or anything else she may select – I give to her absolutely to do as she pleases with it, and I wish it taken out of my estate and set apart for her – and then all the balance of my property that may be left of whatever kind it may be I wish divided into twelve equal parts – One of these I likewise give to my said beloved wife Catherine – and one to each of my four beloved children by my first wife, to wit WILLIAM A., BEAZLEY, WALTER A. BEAZLEY, EDMUND N. BEAZLEY & CHARLES A. BEAZLEY and one of these twelve equal parts or shares I also give to each of my beloved children by my present wife, to wit, MARY F. E. OVERTON, JOHN S. BEAZLEY, FREDERICK A. BEAZLEY, ARTHUR G. BEAZLEY, JULIA C. BEAZLEY, ISABELLA H. BEAZLEY & EMMA J. BEAZLEY. Item Third – In case any of my said beloved children shall depart this life before I do leaving a child or children living then it is my wish that such child or children of such one or more of my deceased children shall stand in the place of the deceased parent. Item Fourth – I nominate appoint and constitute my beloved son William A. Beazley by my first wife and my beloved son John S. Beazley by my present wife joint Executors to this my last will & testament and do hope they will jointly act and as affectionate Sons see that the will in all its parts and objects is faithfully and truly carried out – In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of April 1856. /s/ Chas.
