This is just the list of Family histories. If you would send in your own histories, that would be a good way to connect with people who don't have internet. 2. Virginia Crilley
    3. As we've mentioned earlier the Taliaferro Historical Society is active. They have a library that is open for research on a limited basis -- most Sundays 3-5pm. But I've been assured that they will be happy to open it at other times and they post a number to call right on the door. They have some materials on families in 3 - ring notebooks, and we're hoping to get a listing on-line so you can see this what is there. I wanted to encourage members on this list to become members and support their work. So I'm listing the "form" to use. 3. Has anyone gone before to visit the Alexander Stephen's House in December? Sounds like a very nice tour. If you go (or have gone), tell us more about it. The candle tour in Alexander Stephens home is from 2:00 - 5 (next Sunday) Dec 12. Cost is $2 dollars I think. You can also tour the Confederate Museum then guided through the home. Characters in costume. Location: On Alexander street about two blocks from the Court house in Crawfordville

    1. Indian War 1836 roster
    2. Virginia Crilley
    3. Linda Ayers transcribed this roster.....and the handwriting was poor. I was hoping some researchers on this Taliaferro list might recognize some names and help us with burial locations. Some of these men probably received bounty land (not in GA), and also later in life a pension --- even their widows may have drawn a pension. The service was a very brief time when there was danger from the Indians. Not sure where they gathered....many troups went to Columbus, but there were several points where they mustered. 2. Hi Lee. Great to see you here!! Wiley once told me not to pay too much attention to his directions in the book to some of the country cemeteries - that it wasn't always real accurate or the best way to get there. Rhoda

    3. Thanks Bruce, I was aware of GNIS and already had printed out info on the 35 Cems listed there. In the course of crossreferencing them to Wiley's work, I found that in some cases the cemetery name doesn't exactly match and in a couple of cases Wiley had two (or more) cems of the same name and only one is listed in GNIS. Also Wiley collected data on about 102 cems in Taliaferro County. To reconcile the discrepancies I'll place a cem on an electronic map using GNIS co-ords and then follow Wiley's directions from the book to try and establish a match. For those cems that Wiley listed which aren't on GNIS (and I suspect that the large part of them, if not all will be small remote family plots) it's just going to be an exercise in "hunt 'em down." And work in neighboring Greene Co. has shown that this may be difficult even with directions. Thankfully during conversations with H. Armor prior to his death, I learned a little of what to look for. When you're familiar with the surnames of a county, you'll see them more correctly than a stranger. So please, help us out with some corrections... Many of these names are the same ones on the 1827 Lottery listing of those who drew while living in Taliaferro County. Virginia

    3. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/taliaferro/deeds/1827name.txt This list would help you locate early pioneers of Taliaferro County as when you scroll to the right, it lists the Capt's name of the district where the people lived. They many have just sold their land....or some may have moved westward to it. The Captain districts were: (and I'd like to have their first names, if someone happens to be researching them). Justice Moor Echold Town Cobbs Alford Guise Gunn Hammack You could group the families by their district if that would help.... and then you could see who would have "drilled together" and presumably lived next to one another. 3. http://www.mycountymaps.com/ These are great modern day maps.... some require Adobe Reader.....and some are very slow to load.... I thought some of you might benefit if you are trying to locate a deed or a community or even a cemetery. You can adjust the size on your Adobe Reader, and I believe you could also print these, although I didn't attempt it. Virginia
