    3. Taliaferro County GaArchives Obituaries.....Bradley, Mattie Belle Taylor January 31 1906 ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Rhoda Taylor Fone http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00012.html#0002953 February 4, 2005, 1:25 am The Crawfordville Advocate Democrat , Feb. 1906 IN MEMORIAM Daily and hourly the gates between time and eternity stand open to receive some friend or loved one marching on to the great unknown. On Jan. 31, 1906, the pure young spirit of Mrs. Mattie Bell Bradley winged its flight to the God who gave it, after a lingering illness of several weeks. Although all was done that medical skill could devise, or loving hearts suggest, to ward off the Destroyer, the decree had gone forth and she joined the silent procession, leaving an infant babe six weeks old. She was the eldest daughter of W. C. and Sallie E. Taylor, and was nineteen years of age. It is indeed sad to see one so young die – so filled with energy, so lovely in character, so beloved – but the “Judgments of God are unmeasurable, and His ways past finding out.” She expressed a calm resignation to the will of God and committed her young babe to the strong arms that bore her in infancy. To the heart-broken husband, parents, relatives, and friends we will say, weep not as those without hope. Hear the voice of Him who stills the tempest, and who will guide you to the beautiful “City” where God will wipe all tears away. Now that she has been transplanted in fairer climes, where sickness, sorrow and death can not enter, she is enjoying the beautiful sunlight of a Savior’s face for evermore. She was buried in the Crawfordville cemetery Feb. 1st, in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends, Rev. Albert H. Flynt conducting the services. “There is no death; the stars go down To rise upon some foreign shore. And bright in Heaven’s jeweled crown They shine for evermore.” Additional Comments: Mattie Belle Taylor was born November 3, 1886, Taliaferro Co. and died January 31, 1906 in Taliaferro Co. She was daughter of William Chesley Taylor and Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" Darracott. Mattie Bell was married to W. Dennis Bradley, January 22, 1905. Her death came just a few weeks after the birth of their only child, Bernard Bradley. 3. Hello List Members, Thank you to all of those people who answered my query on POSS on the Wilkes and Taliaferro County lists. Miriam Poss Durahm is still living the last I heard in her early 90's in the Durhamtown Communiy of Greene County, Georgia. She is my aunt by marriage. I am trying to put together a little something on her family tree for her. People who replied to my postings say that Lola/Lori was Lora Lee Patterson m. c. 1908 in Wilkes County. Now I need the parents of Henry T. Poss and how many times he was married in an effort to fill in the gap between the 1880 census and the 1900 census. Aunt Miriam was a little "fuzzy" on the details when I saw her last summer. I will be trying to follow up on some of the links various people sent to me. Thanks for you time and more importantly your information. All assistance appreciated. Vivian Cates, Alto, Texas 1900 CENSUS WILKES COUNTY, GEORGIA. 3. In the 1920 census I located in district 604 the family of: Alex Ledbetter male 63 head of household Lovie female 50, Adaline female 28, Ruth female 24, Marion 22 female, Norman 20 male, Sarah 18 female, Gladis 14 female, Lucille 11 female. Their nearest neighbors were the Rhodes family. Still working on more. They married into my family a few times and would love to connect them and maybe even a story will come out of that. Thanks in advance Terri

    3. Is anyone researching POSS in Taliaferro and Wilkes County, Georgia? I would like to do a little research on this family for my aunt by marriage who is stilling in Greene County, Georgia, at slightly over 90 years old who has lived all of her life in the area, but did not seem to recall much about her family when I visited her last summer. I found her on the Taliaferro County, Georgia census along with some of her brothers and sisters. I need her mother's maiden name. Corry F. Poss b. c. 1882 m. Lori/Lola [_?_. Also need parents of Corry F. Poss. I did not seem to find a marriage in either Wilkes or Taliaferro County (published and/or online)to fit this couple. She also talked about a "Big Henry" Poss, several marriages, at least two, for either her father or grandfather and lots of children. The names on the census are not always what they were known by in the family and that confuses things. If you have a copy of Lunceford's book of Taliaferro County Records please make a correction to the marriages. White Marriage Book D. page 27 on page 200 of the book. Poss, Miriam (should be Louise and not Lunie) to Malcolm R. Durham 10/9/1933. Any help would be appreciated such as any obituaries for Poss to fill out this family. 2. Hi. In the "additional comments" section of the obit of William Raymond Lunsford, I inadvertently gave the wrong birthdate for him. He was born December 17, 1898 (tombstone inscription), not January 1897. His brother, Roy Lunsford, Sr., was born January 1897. Rhoda

    2. Hi Vivian. Roy Lunsford was my uncle by marriage. He married Susie Taylor, sister of my father, John Alonzo "Lonnie" Taylor. This past June I was in Georgia and attended the Lunsford reunion at Bevelyn's Durhamtown Plantation. It is a great place with lots of activity going on with so many of those All Terrain Vehicles zooming around. By the way, this branch of the family uses the spelling LUNSFORD rather than Lunceford. I'll be posting some further information on the Lunsfords soon. Sincerely, Rhoda

    3. Thanks for posting the Lunceford family and related connections obituaries of of which is below. Mrs. Carson Durham, listed in the obituary but now deceased, nee Lottie Lenora Lunceford, was my aunt by marriage. She married Carson Gordon Durham in Taliaferro County, Georgia, in 1934. She was Church Clerk at Bethesda Baptist Church for years. Carson Gordon Durham was one of my mother's older brothers. Their grandchildren/grandson now have Durhamtown Plantation, a sports resort (mostly hunting camp and 4-wheeler trails),in eastern Greene County on Randolph Church Road between Daniel Springs and Temperance Bell Crossroads/Woodville. They have a web page that you can find by doing a web search. For more information on the Lunceford family you can contact my first cousin Bevelyn Durham McCommons (Mrs. Robert S.)either through the web page or by a telephone call. She lives on Randolph Church Road and is listed in the phone book. I think she had Lunceford family information back beyond the Civil War and maybe to the Rev. War. I don't remember for sure.
