    3. The Community was saddened by a loss of a true friend and native of Taliaferro County on February 20, 2005. Mr George, known by so many, son of William Thomas and Annie Simons Fambrough, was born April 19, 1912. Many knew George as a former truck driver of our county and mill worker, planner at the Crawfordville Mill. He was our County commissioner in 1974 and a friend to many people outside our county as well, he never met anyone that wasn't a friend. George was a Clerk at the Sandy Cross Baptist Church and built his home in Sandy Cross across the street from his parents for his loving wife Willie Mae Johnson, former school teacher and family friend to many for so many years. Willie Mae proceeded George's death on March 26, 2000. George and Willie Mae lived for many years in Sandy Cross. George was known to be carrying for the two Churches in the Sandy Cross Community first a member of the Baptist Church then a member of the Methodist Church when help seemed to be needed. He and his family grew up in the area of Edgewood, growing cotton until the great boil weevils took out much of his parents' crops. You may even remember having meals at his sister Annie Lou Bonner’s Liberty Cafe in Crawfordville. We will miss you Mr. George. I take this time to express my condolences to the family of George Albert Fambrough. His brother Howard remains hospitalized at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. 3. Dear List Members, I am again cross posting as these family connections migrated from one county to the other. I am still trying to account for the relationships between the parties who signed the following deed for the sale of a slave and her child in Taliaferro County, Georgia, in 1854. What was their relationship that they all had an interest in this slave. Some of the earlier conclusions I posted to the list have proved to be in error, but were good guess with the information I had at the time. What is the MCAVOY AND RHODES connection to the Pollards??? I am trying to identify two MCAvoy women in connection with the POLLARDS who seem to be my line. Also seeking a marriage record for S. E. Nash/Sarah Nash b. as late as January 1843 to _?_ Mansfield. This is what I know or have some proof of and what seems to fit. Sarah M._?_ was the widow of Seaborn Pollard. She b. c. 1782 d. 1872 Greene County, Georgia. They were members of Bethesda Baptist Church in Greene County, Georgia. William H. Rhodes- living in Sarah Pollard's household in 1860 near Greensboro. relationship unknown. Did he marry a deceased daughter. Josiah Pollard-son of Sarah Pollard with her on census? Mary McAvoy-though at first she was a daughter who m. McAvoy. However, Mary G. Rhodes m. Michael McAvoy 1825 Wilkes County, Georgia. James Pollard-son of Sarah Pollard. James Edmo(u)ds m. Sarah Pollard 1849 Wilkes County, Georgia. This is my line. They named a son named Seaborn. An S. E. Nash age 16 (b. c. 1842-43)probably erronously identified as male rather than female is living with Sarah Pollard in 1860. This would fit the tombstone for Elizabeth Pollard m. Jacob B. Nash 1830 and d. 1843 who is buried at Daniel Springs. The marker lists her children and who the daughters married. One was Mahala who m. John McAvoy 1850 Wilkes County, Georgia and one married a Mansfield. Marriage date indicates that the marker was probably erected after 1860. Looking for a marriage for S. E. (Sarah Elizabeth???) Nash to __?_ Mansfield after 1860. Does anyone have an index for 1830,1840, 1850 Wilkes Co., Ga. census that shows Michael McAvoy? I can access the census on Texshare for free, but have no indexes for those years. Not much information on Michael McAvoy on family search.org or rootsweb and genealogy.com message boards. Generally that he migrated to Georgia through Savannah from Ireland c. 1822. Some claim that he was in Mississippi in 1860, but that does not fit for Mary with John in 1860 in Wilkes County. Thanks for you time. Any assistance appreciated. Loks of puzzle pieces that don't all fits and no family stores. 3. Dear List Members, I am again cross posting to several lists as these people migrated between counties or else there ws trouble determining where the county lines were. I just sent a previous posting on these families showin gthe 1850 and 1860 Wilkes County, Georgia, census extracts. Below in my notes is the deed I mentioned there which ties some of this information together. I would appreciate any infromation on Pollards, Edmonds, McAvoy, Rhodes and Nash families in Greene, Oglethorpe, Taliaferro and Wilkes County, Georgia., that would seem to connect to or between these suranmes. Below I have pasted in my notes for Sarah M. _?_ who appears to be the widow of Seaborn Pollard, Sr. I am guessing that he was b. as early as 1780 or earlier and died in the early 1840 in Taliaferro County without a will. If the newspaper abstract of her death is correct Sarah M. _?_ Pollard was b. c. 1782 to have been 90 years old on October 9 1872. I don't have a will for either person. No land deeds, but they seem to have had some slaves which is sort of odd to not have had any land that I can find. In the deed below I am proposing that Sarah Pollard was the widow. William H. Rhodes, son-in-law whose wife had died before 1850??? Daughter's name??? Josiah Pollard, son James Pollard, son Mary McAvoy, daughter, (need her marriage to _?_ McAvoy James Edmo(u)nds, son-in-law, m. Sarah Pollard 1849 Wilkes County, Georgia. Nash (Isolated grave maker Daniel Springs, Greene County, list her children and dates) Were John McAvoy m. Mahala Nash 1850 Wilkes County first cousins or some other relationship? Were their mothers Pollard Sisters, Mary Pollard McAvoy and Elizaght Pollard Nash??? Any assistance appreciated. 3. Dear List Members, I am cross posting to the Greene, Wilkes, Oglethorpe and Taliaferro County, Georgia, lists and to the Pollard list. I am still trying to sort out my POLLARD and EDMONDS (Various spellings) lines in these areas of Georgia. The Edmonds lived at Rayle in Wilkes County, Georgia, but were on the 1820 Oglethrope County, Georgia, census. I think the Pollards lived generally in that section of Taliaferro County (mostly the 605th GMD) that was taken as a slice of these three other counties c. 1827 when Taliaferro was formed. Their records are likely to show up in any of the four counties. I have the Edmonds back to 1768 in Halifax County, Virginia, and they migrated to Wilkes County, c. 1784-86 and am only just now in the past few years have tried to sort out the Pollard line. I am trying to sort out and prove the family of Seaborn Pollard, Sr., who some sources on the Internet sites claim was a son of William Pollard (Rev. Sol.)and Jane Thompson who is supposed to have migrated to Wilkes County, Georgia, from Culpeper County, Virginia. By 1860 the widow of Seaborn Pollard, Sr., Sarah M. _?_ and some of her grown children were living at Greensboro in Greene County. They were members of Bethesda Baptist Church in Greene County. In 1850-60 some of the men were farming and some were working for the Railroad. I have never found any land records for Seaborn and Sarah Pollard, but they seem to own as many as 14 or so slaves. I have Seaborn b. as early as c. 1780 and died probably in Taliaferro County without a will between 1840-50. Below I have cut and pasted extracts from the 1850 and the 1860 Census of Wilkes County, Georgia, for James Edmonds, Jacob B. Nash, and John McAvoy. From the marriage records of Wilkes County, Georgia: Sarah Pollard m. James Edmonds 1849 Elizabeth Pollard m. Jacob B. Nash 1830 Eizabeth Pollard d. 1843 buried Daniel Springs, Greene County, in isolated family cemetery with marker listing children. In Armor's Greens Co. Cem. Book. Jacob B. Nash m. Martha Silvey 1845. Mahala Nash m. John McAvoy 1850 Listed on her mother's marker. Need proof (marriage record etc.) that Mary Pollard b. c. 1810 or earlier, dau. of Seaborn and Sarah M _?_, m. _?_ McAvoy was the mother of John McAvoy and that John McAvoy and Mahala Nash were probabably first cousins by their mother's being Pollard sisters??? No family stories, just some very confusing records that seem to fit, if this relationship, I am PURPOSING, is true. What was the connection of William H. Rhodes to this family if he did not marry an older Pollard siSter that was deceased by 1850. He was living with the Sarah M. Pollard family in 1860 in Greene County. Two men, who I think were Josiah Pollard and William H. Rhodes, were making an estate return in Taliaferro County, Georgia, in the early 1840's on an estate that was probably that of either Seavorn pollard Sr. or Jr. I was only able to find the index of returns, not the name of the deceased. No wills for Pollard in Taliaferro County. All of these people are somewhat tied together by a deed in Taliaferro County c. 1853 where Sarah Pollard, James Edmonds, William H. Rhodes, Mary McAvoy, Josiah Pollard, etc. are selling a slave. I have previous posted this deed to the list, but I will post it again in a separate query. How was Martha Silvey Nash, above, related to Dolford H. Silvey who married the oldest daughter of Sarah R. Edmonds. Dolford Silvey and Eliza Edmonds m. c. 1832 Wilkes County. Dates would not fit to be a daughter. Maybe a sister/brother rleationship??? Edmonds are buried in Rayle/Silvey Cemetery at Rayle. Any Pollard or other information that would shed more light on these family relationships would be greatly appreciated.
