Ted Bass, pastor of the church, officiated, assisted by Rev E.H. Dunn, Rev. Walter Evans, and Rev. Robert Agner. Internment was in the Butler Cemetery. Born in Marion County, October 4,1890, son the late Thomas S. and Ellen Halley Montgomery, he has spent most of his life in Taylor County. After graduation from the Medical School of Augusta, he established an office in Butler and several years later founded the Montgomery Hospital in Butler. He remained active in his medical practice until his death. He was a member of the Butler Methodist Church. He died at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta at 11:50 p.m., Sunday, after a brief illness. Survivors include his wife, Anniera McLendon Montgomery, one son, Dr. R. Clifford Montgomery and one grand daughter, Miss Patricia Montgomery. Edwards Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements with the following serving as pallbearers: James Gibson, Calvin Jarrell, Murray Jarrell, Emmett Wilson, Walter Suggs, Hubert Payne and Hugh Cheek. The honorary escort included Dr. F.H. Sams, Dr. W.C. Whatley, Dr. Harold Jarrell, Dr. F.C. Jarrell, Dr. Dan Callahan, Dr. S.H. Bryan, Dr. Leon Theus, Dr. John Pennington, Dr. Jimmy Smith, Dr. Eli Garrett, Robert Swearingen, W.S. Payne, Blanford Jarrell and Murray Walker.
