One of the landmarks: Findly Spring Branch. Witnessed by Timothy GRIGGS & J.P. FERGUSON. This is another instance where FINDLEYs and GRIGGS are connected. See also Thomas GRIGGS and John FINDLEY connection (Talbot marriages, pt #4). I would be interested in corresponding with anyone who knows more about these two families. Burks, JP pg 50 additional info: I have not been able to place Malinda REDING with her REDING family. Would appreciate any help offered. Owen is one of five FIN(D)LEY brothers -- Owen, Charles, Ed, Evan and Benjamin -- all of whom were in Talbot County GA part or all of the period of about 1830-1859. Owen FINDLEY served as a 2nd Lt. in military from May 2, 1829 to June 20, 1832, from Talbot Co GA. (- GA Military Records (microfilm), 1808-1829, pg 213 - GA State Archives) Owen FINLEY served on Talbot Co GA Petit Jury (Re-enpanelled) for 1835 (March?) (Talbot Co GA Gen Web, 10/99) 1836 - Legal notice ... We the undersigned citizens of Talbot & Meriwether Cos, do hereby certify that we have known Nicholas BAKER of Troup Co for several years and have always found him an honorable and upright man and have no hesitance in saying that he is entitled to credit as a man of truth, either upon his oath or otherwise. Two family members employed in agriculture. Not far from Edw FINDLEY; on same pg with Evan FINDLEY. Listed just under Isaac CHANY. (-from Nat'l Archives Microcopy 704, Roll 51, pg 196) Owen FINDLEY on 1 Sept 1843 had made and delivered to Peter F. MAHONE a promissory note for $100. secured by Land Lot 205, 23rd Dist, 202-1/2A. (now selling note - and presumably land?) to Grief FERGUSON.(-Talbot Co GA Land Records, Bk G, pg 182 via Libba Woodall, 8/84). Original drawer of Lot 205, 23rd Dist. was Seth HUNTER from Cole's Dist, Columbia Co. GA. He received final cert. Dec 15, 1831. He was in the 1830 census. Jordan) 1850 Talbot Co GA Census shows Owen FINDLEY in 23rd Dist, 7 Nov 1850, Family # 1101, with Owen-57?-M-farmer; Malinda-40-F-b.GA; Catherine-14-F-b.GA; James-5; Martha-2. (-Nat'l Archives, Family # 1101) Next to Edmund FINDLEY, and very near Colson HEATH family (Jeremiah HEATH-14-married Catherine FINDLEY) 1852 - Owen FINDLEY, 876 Dist. GA Militia, Redbone: Polls - 1; Real Est.-202 ac. 2nd quality land in Talbot Co valued at $1000; amount of $ & solvent debts - $7; aggregate value all other property- $100; Aggregate value of whole property - $1107; value after deducting $200 - $907; tax on polls - $25. HOWARD, dec'd in account current from 30 Jun 1853 to 16 Jan 1854: Aug 1 rec'd - Owen FINDLEY - note for acc't - $6.05 (- FHC # 0249387, Talbot Court of Ordinary (Probate) Book D, 1853-1859, pg 18) Also many listings of receipts from I. CHENEY who we know to be close to Owen FINDLEY on census. This indenture made ... 4th day of Sept 1855, ... Daniel WETHERS to Owen FINLEY...of the county of Talbot ... for $660 ... sold ... in the 23rd Dist ... lot number 282 ...(-Talbot Co Deed Book J pg 464) 1856 - Owen FINDLEY sold lot 282, Crackersneck, Talbot Co GA to John HOWELL. (-History of Pleasant Hill, Talbot Co GA by Nelson Goolsby, pg 54-55) By 1860 Owen FINLEY and family had migrated to TX where they eventually settled in Cass County. His brothers Evan and Benjamin moved to AL. Charles stayed in Meriwether Co GA. We do not know where Ed went.
