Hi Susan. I saw your e mail to Jimmie on the GATALBOT-L letter. The eastern part of Talbot Co became part of Taylor Co when it came into being in 1852. In the 1860 Census, as presented in the book--THEY TARRIED IN TAYLOR(A Georgia County) by Essie Jones Childs on page 112: John F. Herricks 48 SC Nancy 48 SC Jesse J.G. 16 Nicey A. 14 Winney A. 13 George W. 10 Eizabeth A. 5 There are no Herricks in the 1870 Census of Taylor Co. ------------------------------------------------------- Also, on page 5 of the book, these entries appear: Inferoir Court Minutes 2/1/1853 one entry read as follows:John Herricks be paid for $15.00 for the use of Josiah Layfield. ( CTW:use--means --for care of.) second entry reads: August Term, 1853 John F. Herricks be paid $30.00 for support of Josiah Layfield. (Mrs Childs has added a note, which reads: (Josiah now around 113 years old by the 1850 census of Marion Co,) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CTW Note:I have Josiah as born in 1758 and died in 1857. He was a Revolutionary War vet. The age given to the Census taker in Marion co in 1850 was in error. I had beleived all along that the Herricks had to be related to Josiah. But I did not know that Mrs Herricks, was a Layfield. ------------------------------------------------------------------- In court minutes: 1855 County paid subsistance money Nancy and Elizabeth Bachelor and Josiah Layfield. (This is how it appears exactly in the book. ) 8-10-1857 Brigett Mullins paid $22 for service and attention to Josiah Layfield for the last six months of his life. -------------------------------------------------- I looked up marriages in the book and here is what I found: James Bachelor married Nancy Ann Herricks in 1860 James Bachelor married Elizabeth Underwood in 1865. Note by CTW: I don't know how/if any the marriages tie to the subsistance payments. --------------------------------------------- Tarried in Taylor and 3 other Taylor Co books are now out on one CD at a cost of only $!0 The Central Georgia Genealogical Society in Warner Robins, Ga. ----------------------------------------------- I noticed that the Herrick children had names: Nicey A., Winney, and George. George Layfield married Mary Winney Martin. Her sister, Nicey Ann Maritn Jinks is my GT GT Grandmother. I have been tracing the Martins, Jinks, and Layfields for a few years. Josiah is buried in Taylor Co Ga. If you have any more questions, I will be glad to help. Sincerely, Carol T. Watson [email protected]
Hi Carol, Saw your posting about the Layfields on the GATALBOT-L letter. Seth Layfield married Susan Williams, a relative of mine. George Layfield is the father of Seth Layfield and I noticed that George married a Martin. Is this part of your family? It is my understanding that the Layfields, Williams, and Storys came to Sabine Co. in Texas together after the Civil War. Do you have any information on this?
