"Jack" Brown was born 1830 Crawford Co. Ga. He married 18 Aug. 1850 Talbot Co. Ga. Sarah Margarette Shelton born 1832 child of M. David Shelton & Sara. They had at least: Alberta "Molly" Brown 1851 Julia Jack Jr. Jack Sr. was the 3rd child of William M. (Merritt?) Brown born 1805 Greene Co. Ga.--who faught Creek Indians from Crawford Co. Ga. and became an officer after accusing his commanding officer as a Pvt. of being a Coward... and was the Marshall of Ga. William M. married #1 Amanda E. Gray 15 Jul 1824 Greene Co. Ga. dtr of Archibald Gray and Cynthia Armour of Greene (Buried Taylor outside Butler, but died when that part of Taylor was Talbot) William M. died 29 Apr. 1870 in Americus, Sumter, Ga. He was the head of a committee to settle the problems after the war, and died at a meeting-MURDERED-POISIONED, by person or persons unknown, according to his Masonic Write up. He is listed in the 1860 Death Index in Marion Co. Ga. The records of the trial are not found..yet.. Amanda died 6 Sep 1868 according to stone in the same Gray-Harris Cemetery in Taylor. There is a question here as William M. married again in 1851-and no divorce is found. He was a deligate to the Constitutional Union Convention Jun. 1851, along with another of my ancestors Seaborn McMichael. George A. Brown born 1826 oldest son of William M. married in Crawford 1846 Julia P. Raines. She is the child of W. (William?) Nathaniel Raines and Rebecca Jackson of Hancock, Jones and Talbot Co. Ga. Julia died in Marion after the birth of child #3 and George moved to Sumter where he was city clerk. Elected to the Democratic Legislature 1852-a Union Man. (But later joined the confed.) He was kicked out of the civil are as "too old". Child #2 of Wm. M. and Amanda was Emily Amanda Brown born 1828 Crawford, died 1887 Taylor. Married 1846 Crawford, Julia P's. cousin Thomas Abercrombie Raines Surgeon and Medical Director of Ga..-also Justice of Inferior Court and CSA-Vol. Co. D. 13th Ga. Reg. Child #4 of Wm. & Amanda - James Franklin Brown Lawyer , born 1832 married Ann Elizabeth Henderson a 1855 Child #5 Mary Elizabeth born 26 May 1834 Crawford married 1847 Dr. Wm. J. Reese. M. Brown was the son of Ezekiel Brown & Elizabeth Merritt. Ezekiel is buried with a Rev. War. Marker, BUT I can find no proof and age does not help! Ezekiel was the son of William and Sara (Long?) of Greene, who probably stopped off in Edgecombe Co NC--SOLDIER OF THE SOUTH Archibald Gray was the son of James Gray Rev.
