    3. A little addition to the note on Tax, GA. I looked up my notes, and also on the sign it said Est. 1828. I checked in the book "There Was A Land" by Judge Robert Jordan and found the following: "Tax was a well known community in the early 1900's, so called because it was the place where county tax officials made stop while receiving tax returns. Located there was the mercantile establishment of R.C. and J.O. Fryer - Dealers in General Merchandise. The Tax post office was also located in this store. Nearby was a cotton gin and many attractive homes. Families included the Russells, Fryers, Colliers and many others." (pg. 86) "Flint Hill District in the northwest section of Talbot County includes the old settlements of Sardis, Hendricksville, Roughedge, Flint Hill and Tax. On the west it touches the Valley Plains District of Harris County near Shiloh." (pg. 85) Sheila Phillips
