    1. [GATALBOT] Individual Cemetery Lists
    2. Crilley
    3. We are fortunate enough to have a surname INDEX done by Bob Torbert based on earlier Cemetery work by Jack Morgan, et al. However, I think it would also be helpful to have these listed as individual cemeteries. 1)The female is sometimes listed under her maiden name (While this is helpful IF you know the maiden name, it can be confusing if you don't) 2)You can see other family members who are buried there, and maybe deduct some other relationships http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/taylor.htm (You'll see 4 files there which include the cemetery lists at the top, then scroll down to the alphabetical surnames) I NEED your help in accomplishing this!! If you are willing to take a couple of cemeteries and break them down for us....please write to me. Essentially, it just means "copying and pasting" (and I'll be glad to teach you this very handy technique if you are new to computers) from the 4 main lists. 1. Re: [GATALBOT] Marriage date - name at end
    2. Virginia- Thanks so much for the explanation. That helps a lot. And it is interesting seeing the names of the "official". Thanks! Diana In a message dated 12/31/2000 6:25:47 AM Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << Subj: [GATALBOT] Marriage date - name at end Date: 12/31/2000 6:25:47 AM Pacific Standard Time From: [email protected] (Crilley) To: [email protected] The name at the end is the "official" who married the individual. Sometimes these are JP (Justice of Peace) or JIC (Justice of Inferior Court) or a clergyman (OM - Ordained Minister MG Minister of the Gospel) I'm not sure if the clergymen meant this literally....."ordained" vs "unordained". I doubt if there was such a thing as an "unordained"....so I think they were used interchangeably. I think these names are very, very important as they might give an indication as to the part of the county they lived in. I have been especially curious about Nathaniel Athon, as he seems to come up throughout the entire 3 marriage books...and quite frequently. So either he was a very popular minister....or he really did have a large congregation....or several of them!! This microfilm contained 3 books. pg 3 (means book A) pg B3 means Book B pg C3 means Book C At 02:19 AM 12/31/2000 EST, [email protected] wrote: >Can someone tell me how this info breaks out? Several thousand bales of the cotton were stored there at the beginning of the Civil War. During the great fire of 24 Mar 1865 in Geneva the only store left standing was the Warehouse of W. R. Moore and H.H Hammock's which was down in the "bottom" and escaped the fire. Thousands of Bales of cotton burned for days and all the other warehouses were lost. However, on 16 Apr. 1865 the Union took over and spared, for some reason,W. R. Moore's store, but they torched H.H.Hammock's Warehouse and cotton. Data from 1850 GA census-He and his family lived next door to Lewis McBRYDE-McBRIDE at that time. Prop. value $5,600. Marriage listed in Book A Talbot Co GA. Geneva neared the end of antebellum development when the McBryde House was built in 1859. John T McBryde lived there in 1860, when he was 41, a planter with $2,500 of real estate and $5,025 of personal estate. His wife, Gracey E McBryde, was 35. They were born in GA. It was the home of the John T McBryde family for more than 90 years.""Torn down several years ago, the McBryde house site is on School House Rd, adjoining the Cook-Ligon-Hildreth homeplace on the north and east. McBryde plantation lands attrached to the house lot were several hundred acres as late as 1930. East of the Bennett House, McBryde lands were reached by an old plantation road. Along the road were several cabins, some former slave quarters. Easter Howard, cook for about 30 years at the McBryde house, lived on one of them. A cabin in the back yard of the McBryde home was the dwelling of "Old Aunt Nan'" a former slave and family servant, until her death. CENSUS:1860 Talbot County, Georiga Census, p. 571. 889 District (Geneva), dwelling # 177. Listed as 54 years old. Also living with him are John MCNEAL, 47 years old and Jane MCNEAL 46 years old. Hope is listed as a Planter. LAND RECORDS:Georgia 1827 Land Lottery - Drew Lot Number 253 in District 7 of Carroll County, Georgia. Living in the Mullins District of Jones County. COURT RECORDS:The Supreme Court of Georgia, Talbotton, January Term 1849. Hope H. HAMMOCK (executor of Caleb Adams' estate) vs. Wm. J. and John McBride. Caleb ADAMS owed the McBrides money for a piece of land. HAMMOCK sold 2 slaves of Caleb's and gave the money to Elizabeth ADAMS. Didema ADAMS (sister of Caleb) bought the slaves. This records indicates that Caleb ADAMS was dead by 1844 when the sheriff of Stewart County, Georgia testified that the slaves were old. The record also indicates that John CHILDERS, husband of Nancy HAMMOCK, was in the state penitentiary in Baldwin County, Georgia when he gave interrogatories on 11 Mar 1847, but by May 1848 he had returned to Talbot County, Georgia.

    3. Posted on: Talbot Co. Ga Wills Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/TalbotWill/16 Surname: McDaniel, Clark, Clarke, Braddy, Black, Jones, Reeves, McFarland, Williams, Tillman, Peterman ------------------------- Jamie, thanks for the reminder about the Frederick McDaniel and Polly Clarke marriage so close to Hiram's and Nancy's. Two McDaniel-Clark(e) marriages so close together do seem like more than a coincidence. My great-great grandfather Hiram McDaniel (Sept. 05, 1821 to March 3, 1894) and great-great grandmother Nancy Clark (October 01, 1824 to Dec. 07, 1883) married, settled and died in Talbot County. They had 16 children, all born in Talbot Co. The names above are surnames of the women and men who married into this family. These include William Alexander Braddy (m Martha Ann McD), Lucinda Pamelia Elizabeth Black (m William Jasper McD), Hulda Elizabeth Tillman (m Charles Thomas McD), Laura Peterman (m Charles Thomas McD), William Jones (m Ella McD), Emma Williams (m Henry Patrick McD), Mellie Reeves (m Benjamin Tyler McD), Henry McFarland (m Nancy Emma McD), Edna Eugene Black (m Allen Franklin McD) and John Thomas Black (m Leola Rebecca McD). Hiram (1821-1894) also married Mattie Elizabeth Unknown sometime after 1883. I hypothesize that there is a connection among the several McDaniel households resident in the Flint Hill and Pleasant Hill areas of Talbot at the time of the 1850 census. They are the John (abt. 1790 SC) and Anna (abt. 1800) McDaniel family, who I suspect are my Hiram's parents, and the Roderick McDaniel (b abt. 1765 Scotland), Hiram McDaniel (b abt. 1797 SC) and Lucy Chapman (b abt. 1814 GA) household nearby. I suspect that this Hiram (1797) may be John's (1790) brother and Hiram's (1821) uncle, and that Roderick (1765) may be John (1790) and Hiram's (1797) father. Further, it is my suspicion that Hiram and Nancy were counted twice in the 1850 census--first with the extended family of John and Anna in Flint Hill with Hiram's name misspelled Hixam, along with dau. Martha (6), and later during the census year in their own household in Pleasant Hill with their children correctly identified. An interim move and two different census takers would explain this. It is my hope that someone related to one of these families has records that will help us to connect or disconnect these early Talbot County McDaniel families. I look forward to hearing from anyone with information or ideas about any of these people. Barbara McDaniel Ray Atlanta, GA

    3. Thanks to all of you who helped me out with Nathaniel Athon. This is a summary from several of you, and especially Lynda and Linda! I have concluded (from this) that he was perhaps in BOTH the Pleasant Hill and Belleview area at various times.....but primarily the Blacksmith Shop would locate him in Belleview. Which brings up this question? What can you help me find out about Belleview. I know that it is south of Woodland....and that Woodland wasn't formed until 1900. And WHAT Methodist Church would have been in either Belleview or Pleasant Hill that Nathaniel Athon would have been the pastor for?? If anyone can discover this, it will help. I'd like to create a special Bios page for Ministers....as I think this is a BIG clue as to the part of the county the couple being married lived. So keep in mind any ministers of any denomination that you come across. Nathaniel Athon Davidson - Rockaway Volumes Volume 1 pages 404: "Beyond the McDowell store, and a little farther back from the highway, stood the blacksmith shop of Nathaniel Athon in 1850, and earlier. 1. [GATALBOT] Mullins-Childree- Jones
    2. Crilley
    3. Hope some of you can help Nina Jones with this Mullins family. [email protected] At this point I am searching for information concerning John Lee Mullins aka John Lee Jones married to Rosa Lee Childree..I understand they are in the TAYLOR County 1910 Census as John Lee Mullins and Rosa with most of the children; but not in the 1920 Census. I feel they would have been in Talbot County at that time. John Lees mothers name was Avey Jones who eventually married a Washington Mullins and she was born in Talbot County I think. I don't know if John Lees name as a child was ever officially changed to Mullins; but when he and Rosa married it was Mullins and then sometime after the 1910 Census it was changed to Jones....Officially????? or did they just move to another and assume his Mothers name? Who was his Father? John Lees Death Certificate indicates Frank Windham....I have located two possibilities for that time period...how do I find out which one? I AM HOPING SOME OF YOUR ARCHIVES OR SOMEONE ON YOUR LIST WILL HAVE THESE ANSWERS FOR US. I WOULD WELCOME ANY SUGGESTIONS. We do not live very far from Talbot County; however I am trying to find out as much as possible before making the trip. to the courthouse. Thanks again and have a wonderful Christmas Nina Jones [email protected] Virginia

    1. [GATALBOT] Renew your Taylor Tracer
    2. Crilley
    3. It's time to send your check in for your yearly renewal of The Taylor Tracer. I know you'll all agree with me that for the $15 it provides an amazing amount of information, not only about Taylor County....but covering newspaper abstracts from all the neighboring ones as well. The Society works very hard to keep this same low subscription rate....BUT it would be really nice if you added a little bit extra each time you renew. After all it now is 26 pages each month!! (Can you imagine the hard work on John Adams part to come up with all this EACH month!!!) Also there are special categories for: Memorial donations (no set amount) Research donations " Sponsor donation $50 (all tax deductible) So do show your appreciation this time with your renewal check. THE TAYLOR COUNTY HISTORICAL-GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, INC P.O. Box 1925 Butler, GA 31006 AND if your LOCAL Library doesn't subscribe, why don't you give a gift subscription to them. That would help spread the word for anyone doing research in the West Central Section of Georgia. Pass this word around to any of your Surname Lists that involve these counties as well. They will be included in the latest PERSI also! This is the index to Genelogical Journals that is on DC-Rom as well as published Indexes in your library. Virginia
