Jack Morgan and his crew surveyed the cemeteries and provided handwritten copied to Robert Torbert, who in turn created the data base that we have on our pages. There actually never was an "original" book done by individual cemeteries. Mr. Torbert sold his book for a while, but now there are no more copies. Even he doesn't have one. There is one copy in the Washington Memorial Library - 137 pages....so that will give you an idea about how much work Mr. Torbert put into this! A little addition to the note on Tax, GA. I looked up my notes, and also on the sign it said Est. 1828. I checked in the book "There Was A Land" by Judge Robert Jordan and found the following: "Tax was a well known community in the early 1900's, so called because it was the place where county tax officials made stop while receiving tax returns. Located there was the mercantile establishment of R.C. and J.O. Fryer - Dealers in General Merchandise. The Tax post office was also located in this store. Nearby was a cotton gin and many attractive homes. Families included the Russells, Fryers, Colliers and many others." (pg. 86) "Flint Hill District in the northwest section of Talbot County includes the old settlements of Sardis, Hendricksville, Roughedge, Flint Hill and Tax. On the west it touches the Valley Plains District of Harris County near Shiloh." (pg. 85) Sheila Phillips

Ruth, The cemetery shown as Woodland Cemetery #1 is the Ephesus Presbyterian Cemetery where members of my Bryan family are buried. I have visited that cemetery three times. Everyone always leaves out the graves of my great grandparents though, David W. Bryan and his wife, Mary Catherine Holmes, parents of most of the Bryans buried there. They are in unmarked graves about in the center of the cemetery. The graves are surrounded by a wrought iron fence and the name D.W. Bryan is shown on the gate of the fence. Bobbie Bryan Coons

Hi Virginia and All: Unfortunately, I only know about Hiram and Nancy Clark McDaniel. I have never heard of William Isom or W. D. Watkins. I assume the McDaniel Cemetery is on or near the site of the old McDaniel home place. I have heard that there are other graves there, but unmarked or stones illegible. The cemetery is very isolated and can no longer be found from Cook's description (I've tried). A long hike through the woods will be necessary to reach it, as a bridge is out and roads are very nearly impassable. I hope to get there before Spring growth starts, with cousins and a guide. If anyone has a lead on who owns this land in Pleasant Hill, I'd appreciate the information. And if anyone is interested in joining our trek, let me know. The sons were Levi b. ca 1808, Jackson b. ca 1810, Tomlinson Ford b. ca 1812, Henry and possibly Luis. The daughters and his wife I have no names for. Daughters may have been Caroline Elizabeth m. John Wm McAllister, Narcissus m. Anderson P. McAllister, and Mary A. J. m. Thomas W. Swindall. Cyrus' wife may have been Lucinda b. ca 1804. I say "may have been" because of the ages of these female Cogburns and the ages of the sons. Lucinda would have had to have Cyrus' second wife. Cyrus and three sons (Levi, Jackson and T. F.) were in Rusk Co TX by 1850. They were all in the pottery making business. There were no mention of wife and daughters on the 1850 Rusk TX Census. So did Cyrus and his three sons leave Henry, the girls and wife in Talbot Co GA? Cyrus died ca 1855 in Rusk Co TX. Can anyone shed any light on any of the above?
