Hi folks, The past eight weeks have been very busy for me. I have packed and moved to TX. I recently got settled and started work on updating the Talbot page, and the Troup page. I have completed the update to Talbot. There will be some minor changes in a few days after I open my email archives and see what I'd promised to change for some people. In the meantime, enjoy. Oh! I also have a page to add, courtesy of a nice lady named Stefani Evans. It is the transcribed program for the graduation ceremonies at Mountville High School 7 May 1926. It will be up in 2-3 days. Look for a new heading at the top left of the main page, "Schools". Is anyone researching the Callier family who came to Talbot from Bute/Warren NC very early? Thomas Callier was born in 1769 and is buried in Talbot Co. I will be happy to share information. My line is his brother, John, who came to Wilkes, then on to the MS Terr. in what is present day AL. Thanks, Sue PS Thanks , Virginia, for making the GA sites you maintain some of the best there are, and thanks to the people who go to the effort to help with the postings!

These are also my great great grandparents. Notice that your message was written in 98...so you probably have your answer by now. But her parents were Alford Brown and Amy Pye. Do you by any chance have Andrew Jackson Lee's father and mother??? We are stumped over their identity. Sure hope you are still out there. I believe you have corresponded with Jimmie Lee of Mdn, Miss. I live near there. Are you the one that has a page out of the bible with William E. Lee's death date??? Also...do you have any photos??? Many people are interested because they see names of cleryman performing marriages. We have the Talbot marriages on-line, and you might locate his name there performing marriages. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/talbot.htm Also on the Taylor county page there is a detailed block of information about using the Methodist Resources to locate information about Methodist ministers. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gataylor/church.htm#method

This is called Maund Family.....but it seems very large for a family. Can someone give us a better designation....or is Maund what it is known by?? Incidentally, if someone is the son/daughter/wife of someone buried in another cemetery....it would still be nice to make note of this and indicate the cemetery as well. Again, thank you, Ruth for all this work in compiling these Cemetery Lists. 38 - (Maund Family Cemetery) Geneva, GA Cemetery - Recorded by Morgan 4 Sept 1971. I was told by my grandfather that land grants out west, especially Texas, caused a number of our family members to move away.
I think it is possible that many of the children of the families who were in Talbot Co. in the 1830s and 1840s grew up and acquired their own land as it became available in the territories. I believe that is what happened with my family. I have a Thomas Dixon Family that appeared in Talbot Co in time for the 1840 Census and for at least one daughter to get married that year. They were not listed in the 1850 Census as it appeared on-line, I don't know how complete it was. It is possible that Thomas died before 1850 but his wife Salathia's obituary shows that she died in 1852 and was "of Talbot Co". If she was living with a daughter's family she should be listed somewhere. Elaine Oakes > It seems a lot of large landowners on the 1840 Census are not around in 1850. > Was there a major outmigration during this period. Anybody have a clue? > Thanks. Tom
This is a great question....and might be a clue to some marriages, as families moved together. If you get an answer, please do share it with the list. Also why don't you add your names to the Migration Project....maybe a pattern will emerge Also keep in mind though that surrounding counties were being formed and taken from Talbot. Taylor was created in 1852 for instance. So the families may not have moved at all, just in a different county for the next census. I would assume that the movement was towards the west....AL, MS, TX... It seems a lot of large landowners on the 1840 Census are not around in 1850. Was there a major outmigration during this period. Anybody have a clue? Thanks. Tom
I would like to recommend that you all go to this site: http://www.migrations.org/ and submit the migration of your families. This will help us all see patterns of migration and perhaps find families who migrated together. Ruth Jaeger Researching FINDLEY in SC, Talbot Co GA, & TX.
