Jusr ran across your 1988 message. Is this Isaac Cheney, the son of Aquilla Cheney and brother of John L. Cheney of Monroe County ? Would appreciate a reply and , if so, do you have any certain information as to who Isaac's Grandfather was? These are my direct ancestors. Thanks.
Hello Everyone, We are sending this email to many lists because each of these states/counties have a BINNS relation that has resided in them. We have been researching the BINNS name for many years. Many of our original email contacts for many of these areas are no longer valid. So we are sending this mass email message. We apologize for any inconvenience. Our research has resulted in an original BINNS source as Christopher Binns of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia, born about 1670. There are several presumptions on a variety of lines but these presumptions have a substantial basis. The descendants of this Christopher Binns have spread far and wide throughout the country. Genealogy is becoming a very popular hobby and we hope that many new individuals are now subscribed to these email lists and they may have connections to BINNS families. We invite any and all to visit our 'American Binns Families and Individuals' website, listed in our signature file below, for any possible connection. We need everyones help in establishing a more positive connection. We need family trees and family records. We need corrections and additions. Please help us to create a more accurate BINNS family tree for everyone to pass on to their descendants. Email links are located on our website. Thank you for your consideration!! Hi John! I was wondering if you had any info on an R. H. Sanders listed in the 1860 Yazoo County MS. Census which shows four Sherrard /Sherod children living with him? My e-mail address is [email protected]
I have a copy of what appears to be part of a booklet entitled "1850 Census of Georgia (Talbot County) (Nearly 7,800 Free Citizens)" compiled by Rhea Cumming Otto. Also, it reads: 'Copies may be obtained from: Mrs. Walter W. Otto, 8816 Ferguson Ave., Savannah, GA 31406, $6.75 includes postage. Counties Now Completed in This Series: Dooly, Early, Effingham, Elbert, Emanuel, Fayette, Floyd, Glynn, Jefferson, Laurens, Lee, Liberty, Lincoln, Lumpkin, Macon, Talbot, Tattnall and Telfair' - all in GA I've written to this address, but does anyone know if these books are still available? Marion, Go to this address. The Hawkins were a large family who settled in the old Granville/Bute/Warren area of NC before branching out. On this page all all the ordinary court records (near the bottom of the page for Warren Co.) which are searchable if you use the "edit" at the top of your page. Also search Forrest's page, a link near the bottom, for a Hawkins line. These sites have an incredible data base of NC material. http://www.patch.net/data-idx.html Sue
Thanks, I have looked at the cemetery listings, and a quick glance at what you sent tells me that all, or most, of those are my relatives. I'll send you an update of how they're related to each other. Do you want it sent to the List, or to you personally? Both? Hi there Zou, Good to hear from you again. I did some more research on Jesse Hawkins and I plan to see if I can get a copy of the will of William Hawkins of Jones Co., NC and maybe join the NC Jones Co. list. William of NC had a son named Jesse and a grandson named William; the info I found doesn't make it clear whether grandson William is Jesse's son, though. If he is, that is probably my Jesse Hawkins. I haven't found out any more about the Millens. I'll be sure to contact you if I do. Hi, I'm new to the list and looking for three families in Talbot Co., which seem to be common surnames in the area. INGRAM I'm looking for the ancestors and descendants of my GGG Grandfather, Robert Ingram, who was born in Ireland and emigrated to Chester Co., SC in 1792. He died in 1838 in Talbot County, GA. The name of his first wife is unknown. I don't know whether she was with him when he came to the U.S., or died in Ireland. One of their sons was Joseph (1800-1858), who married Margaret 'Peggy' Johnston. Other children are believed to have been: Huey (<1802-) Robert C. (1802-1868) Hannah (1803-1882) Charles C. (1810-1847) and two more sons whose names are not known to me. About 1825, Robert Ingram married Mary Pendergrass Shaw, the widow of James Shaw; they were neighbors in Chester Co. Both are buried in Talbot Co. JOHNSTON I'm also looking for ancestors and descendants of James Johnston. James was born before 1760, probably in Scotland and died sometime after 27 Nov 1815 (date of his will) and before 2 Mar 1816 (date will was proven). His son, John, predeceased him. I don't know who his wife was. There were three children I know of: John, Isabella, and Sarah. John Johnston was born before 1782 in Glascow, Scotland and died about 1816 in Chester Co., SC. He married Jennet [unknown]; she was also raised in Glasgow, Scotland (according to my grandfather). Jennet was born about 1787 and died sometime after 1860, in Talbot Co., GA. John and Jennet had four children: Margaret 'Peggy' (who married Joseph Ingram; they lived in Talbot Co., GA and Jennet lived with them before her death), Jeane, James, Mary Jeane Johnston: Is this Sarah J. JOHNSTON, b. 1799 in Chester co., SC, d 13 Mar 1872 in Talbot Co. GA; William Reedy married Sarah J. Johnston 5 Jun 1840 in Talbot co. James Johnston, Jr.: I have no information on him and wonder if he also came to Talbot Co. Mary Johnston: Is she one of these Marys? George Johnston married Mary Johnston 2 Nov 1834 in Talbot Co., GA. John C. Calhoun married Mary Ann Johnston 3 Apr 1835 in Talbot Co., GA. James Johnston's other two children were: Isabella, who m. (Unkn) NOUGHES; and Sarah, born in 1800 who m. (Unkn) AKINS\EAKINS and had a son named James AKINS\EAKINS. Did they also come to Talbot Co.? HAWKINS Jesse H. Hawkins was probably born about 1780 in NC. He died about 1848 in Pike Co., GA. I believe he is the father of my GG Grandfather, William Hawkins, who lived and raised his family in Talbot Co., GA. Jesse H. Hawkins m. Mary [Unknown] about 1800. Jesse's will mentions five children: William M. Funssy Bessie (1805->1846) Sarah (ca1808->1846) Edwin (ca1820->1860) Josiah (~1821->1846) Does anyone know if this Jesse Hawkins' son William married Serena Millen? Does anyone have any information on the other four children? Jesse HAWKINS is listed on Pike Co., GA tax digests between about 1839-1845, along with Josiah, Edwin, and Herman Hawkins. They may have come to GA from SC; but supposedly were originally from NC. Will of Jesse H. HAWKINS, written 2 June 1847, and signed with his mark (Pike Co., Will Bk C:11). Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Is anyone else researching these families? Marian

There is a Silas who drew land in 1827. ANd there is a Silas on the 1830 GA census but I have only seen an index entry not the actual census. (On order) He was supposed to have been married in 1829. Land records on BLM site show him living in Talbot in 1837 and getting several land purchases around 1 NE St Stephens No 15N 25E Section 22 Yet these are listed under Alabama. I have ordered Talbot probate records via microfilm but is there a general index available? Susan

This is one of my favorite sites... http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/dayinhis.htm And since these pertain to our counties.....wanted to share them 1806 Gov. John Milledge called for a special session of the legislature to dispense lands recently ceded by Creek Indians. This session would produce Georgia's second land lottery act. ("Counties Formed in the 1807 Lottery: The remainder of 12. Wilkinson; and the remainder of 13. Baldwin.) 1825 Gov. George Troup signed legislation creating what would become Lee, Muscogee, Troup, Coweta, and Carroll counties. The act did not name the counties but rather designated the boundaries of five numbered sections and provided for the survey of each section into land districts and lots. Naming of the counties did not occur until Troup signed an act of Dec. 14, 1826. However, if the date of the 1825 act establishing their boundaries is considered the date of the five counties' creation, they are respectively Georgia's 61st - 65th counties. The five counties were created from land ceded by the Treaty of Indian Springs on Feb. 12, 1825 by a group of Creeks led by William McIntosh. McIntosh had signed away all Creek lands in Georgia (except for four reserves) without approval of other Creek factions, an action which led to his assassination. On Jan. 24, 1826, the Creeks signed a new agreement -- the Treaty of Washington -- in which they again ceded the lands in question but declared void the Treaty of Indian Springs. Lee County probably was named for Revolutionary War hero Richard Henry Lee, though it may have been named for Col. Henry "Lighthorse Harry" Lee. Muscogee County was named for the Muscogee (or Creek) Indians that inhabited the area. Troup County was named for Georgia governor George M. Troup, who signed the legislation creating the five counties. Coweta County was named for the Coweta band of the Creek Indians. Carroll County was named for Maryland's Charles Carroll, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence. Virginia
