Following is a mssage received today from Steve Wrigley, Executive Vice Chancellor of Administration, University System of Georgia, concerning the Georgia Archves. Friends of Georgia Archives & History From:Steve W. Wrigley >Date: June 14, 2013, 10:20:30 AM EDT > >Hi folks, > >I wanted to update you on the latest regarding the Archives transfer to the BOR. > >As you know, effective July 1, 2013 the Georgia Archives will transfer to the Board of Regents. The Governor and General Assembly approved a budget increase of $300,000 for FY 14 in the Archives budget. With these funds, the Archives will hire three additional professionals and increase part-time staff hours. The funds will allow the Archives to open to the public two additional days a week, Wednesday and Thursday, from 8:30a to 5:00p. The new hours will become effective July 31, 2013. The additional staff will also allow for increased conservation and processing activities of the Archives collections. > >In addition, Archives staff have already begun discussing partnership opportunities to engage USG students and faculty in its work. As part of the USG, the Archives will be able to tap the enormous range of faculty, staff and student talent to assist with its mission. I have had discussions as well with colleagues in the USG who are excited about partnering with the Archives. > >Vice Chancellor John Brown and I had a nice visit to the Archives a couple of weeks ago and several other USG staff have visited. We feel thus far the transition is going smoothly and are excited about the future. We will also prepare a budget request for FY 15 that we will share once we have discussed with the Chancellor and sought approval of the Board of Regents. > >We believe the Archives is heading in a good direction and look forward to the formal relationship beginning July 1, 2013. Thank you all for your strong support of the Archives through the years. We look forward to working with you. >Steve Wrigley
