The Swainsboro (GA) Forest-Blade, 24 April 1913: Boatright-Sasser Miss Ruth Boatright and Mr. O. P. Sasser were quietly married at the home of Rev. L. L. Deal, near town, last Monday evening. It was quite a surprise to the many friends of the young couple. Miss Boatright is the charming young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Boatright and was quite popular among the young set. Mr. Sasser is a young man with a bright future before him, holding a responsible position with The Southern Bell Telephone Company. They will make their home at elens for the present. The Atlanta (GA) Constitution, Sunday, 4 May 1913, p. 11M: Swainsboro, Ga. ... One of the youngest brides that Swainsboro has had in sometime is Mrs. O. P. Sasser, who was, before her marriage a few days ago, Miss Ruth Boatright, a little school girl of about 14 summers. Mr. Sasser and his finance, fearing parental objection on account of the youth of the bride, drove out to the country home of Rev. L. L. Deal, where they were married. The bride has many friends here. The groom is in the employ of the Northern Bell Telephone company and is located at Helena, where they will reside. The Augusta (GA) Chronicle, 1 September 1933, p. 8A: Swainsboro Man Takes Own Life, His Friend Says O. P. Sasser, Son-in-Law of Forest Blade Editor, Dies of Shot in Head Swainsboro, Ga. , Aug. 31 - O. P. Sasser, 45, unemployed, was alleged to have taken his own life by firing a .28[?] calibre pistol bullet into his head near here tonight. He lived for only a few minutes after the shot. The only nearby witness, George Sumner, operator of a filling station on Federal Route No. 1 just outside the city limits, where the shooting occurred, is said to have told officers that Sasser committed suicide. Sumner was quoted as telling officials that he and Sasser were seated in front of the filling station, that Sasser excused himself, went back of the filling station and fired the fatal shot. He is quoted as saying he found Sasser dying. Sasser's body was placed in the Swainsboro Undertaking parlors to await word from Coroner Coleman of Emanuel county who had not been notified tonight. Sumner, who was reputed to have been an old friend of the dead man, was not held for further questioning. It was understood a note was found on Sasser's body in which he said he was going to shoot himself. He was depressed for several days. Sasser was formerly employed by the Southern Bell Telephone company and worked in Augusta for a time. His last work was at Eastman, Ga. He was married to Miss Ruth Boatwright, daughter of W. E. Boatwright, editor of the Forest Blade. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
