    3. Hi Jones, I'm well aware of how Burke County got broken up in 1793 & 1796 to help form Screven & Jefferson Counties. A bit got traded with Richmond County at one point (near Blythe, I believe). Then a portion was taken to help form Jenkins County. However, the identification of this William Taylor acquiring land near a Kemp's Branch on the north side of Brier Creek strongly points to this being land that became a part of Screven County. Solomon Kemp the Tory and his son Solomon Kemp, Sr. had lands near what later became Hiltonia. Solomon Kemp, Sr. later became Sheriff of Screven County. His brother Daniel Kemp also had lands in Screven County. I suspect that this land parcel granted to William Taylor in 1788 became a part of Screven County when that county was formed in 1793.
